why do people add you as friend and dont respond to PM?

If someone adds me I will usually return their add but I do not always feel obligated to respond to messages. Conversations on a one to one basis can become taxing for me when I want to unwind and spend my time on QnA.
Also, adding someone means you can follow their posts. It is not about numbers.x

Because, they don't like to chat possibly?
I will answer my friends PM's but I am not always much of a chatty type person.
I hardly to never answer ones from people I do not know

@laxmi23: It does seem rather shallow, but I don't think most of them mean any harm. From what I've seen on social sites, quite a few people just like to have tons of names on their friends list - whether they interact or not. It seems weird to me, but I'm okay with weird. 👻

I have only encountered that problem with women. I understand that it may be because they receive far too many stupid messages from men asking for or sending nude pics. They get tired of that so a lot of women just don't even open PM's.
