USA is sending ICE to the Italian Winter Olympics

And Italians are NOT happy about it!

Outrage is growing in Italy over the deployment of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to assist US security operations at the Winter Olympics next month.

Current and former lawmakers have urged Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to intervene to block the agents’ presence in the wake of two fatal shootings during an immigration crackdown in Minneapolis.

Sounds like they'll mainly be helping US diplomatic security service at the games, which makes sense that federal agents help diplomatic security.

That being said, it's very surprising that it's ICE, and not say, the Secret Service field agents, who I assume would normally be the ones tasked with such details.

Which is where these duties would fall, as they're supposed to be giving support to a fellow agency.

But like I said, I believe normally these tasks would fall to secret service... and Diplomatic Security Service.

Though they might be trained for more detailed tasks, and can keep working on more complex issues, where with all the recent huge hiring of Homeland, they might have more of the extra free bodies to lean, which is why I'm assuming they were selected, that or a political or reward statement.

@sstronaut Exactly. It's like if I were building a house, and I wanted to try and convince the framer to put in some electrical wiring. It's not as hard as a lot of people make it out to be, but there are people trained in that. A good supervisor looks at all of their employees or contractors or whatever, and picks the best people for the task. What this administration is doing is making an intentional statement.
