Yaroslava Mahouchikh (Ukraine, age 22) recently broke the world record for womens high jump that had stood for 37 years. She's an inspiration.

Cathy Freeman the race that stopped Australia. Even though I am a Kiwi.

Usain Bolt was amazing to watch and he always seemed to be having so much fun.

Eric Heiden’s 5 golds at all speed skating distances in 1980 was an astonishing achievement.

And Nadia was a hero to the entire world, never mind Cold War politics, in 1976.
@Harmonium1923

Al Oerter, too. 4 consecutive Olympics - 4 consecutive discus throw golds.
Don’t follow the Olympics much these days but I think Michael Phelps is pretty amazing. And Nathan Chen. I just loved his gold medal performance in Beijing.

I don't know many current ones but my favourite past Olympians would be:

Steve Cram
Linford Christie
John Regis
Michael Johnson
Carl Lewis
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
I'd have to say Daley Thompson.
British Decathlete in the 80's.

Great combination of elite athlete and great personality.
Adogslife · 61-69, M
Spencer Lee, Kyle Dake and Aaron Brooks. They’re all freestyle wrestlers I’m familiar with.

Dake should medal easily. Lee and Brooks are first timers who could medal.

I’m looking forward to watching. Hopefully wrestling will be covered beyond just the medal rounds.

She worked so hard to get where she got
@Selah oh my dear mother I wish 🫶🏼
Abebe Bikila. Winner of two consecutive Olympic marathons. His first happened in Rome (the same year Cassius Clay captured the light heavyweight gold). He ran the entire race barefoot.
