School Cross Country

Who has memories of running cross country at school. I did it a few times but I don't remember it that well. I know we used to run around the school playing field, then along the road for a bit and then back around the field. I'm guessing we did it twice but it was over 40 years ago and I struggle to remember what I did yesterday. I was a keen athlete in my teens but long distance running was never something I enjoyed.

Yes - I have mostly fond memories of school cross country. I wasn't very good at team games so cross country was ideal for me. We had to run up a rough track to get out of the back of the school grounds, then a couple of short stretches of pavement before we reached the large area of open countryside. Here we ran mostly on stony paths but also up the side of a usually ploughed field and back along a longer stretch of pavement to get to the school's front entrance. It was a boys school and we all ran shirtless which was standard in the 60s but also barefoot which might not have been quite so common but it was very practical.
