School Cross Country

Who has memories of running cross country at school. I did it a few times but I don't remember it that well. I know we used to run around the school playing field, then along the road for a bit and then back around the field. I'm guessing we did it twice but it was over 40 years ago and I struggle to remember what I did yesterday. I was a keen athlete in my teens but long distance running was never something I enjoyed.

At my school our running course was across fields and through woodlands.
The most abiding memory is of being soaked by heavy rain and our T-shirts and little shorts becoming semi-transparent.

@emmasfriend Yes, cross country runs were always a winter activity, organised by sadistic PE teachers. Worse for the girls with big boobs - no one had heard of a sports bra in those days!

Freezing, muddy, hair soaked, wet top and shorts clinging to your skin. The highlight of the week!
@emmasfriend happy memories ?

not particularly.

@SchoolBelle Explains it much better than I did

@emmasfriend Likewise!
@emmasfriend - that’s a shame 😳. The teachers obviously thought it was character building…. or just wanted to see you suffer !

I remember as a fifteen-year-old girl being very conscious that my nipples were hard with the cold and visible through the rain-soaked T-shirt. Furthermore, my dark pubes were obvious through the wet white shorts.
There was never any underwear with our sports kit.

I was aware of how much I was displaying by looking at my fellow students.
At least the school was 'girls only' !

@emmasfriend Yes, exactly - and we shared all that with the boys!
@SchoolBelle @emmasfriend - our school was co-ed but games was separate. To be fair that was probably a good thing based on your description. I’d still be cross eyed now if I’d seen you !

Something like this.

Quite similar !
But we wore white, so more transparent when wet.
Our shorts were more square-cut, loose on the thigh.
As the route was completely on agricultural / forestry land we wore the same spiked running shoes that we used on the track.

@emmasfriend im sure. I was just going for the wet t-shirt look. Im sure you looked just as lovely in what you were wearing.
