I still can’t understand how people run 5ks

I’ve been outside again for four months now and can still barely do a mile. While I am improving, I ran nearly nonstop today without stopping for a drink, I still suck at distance and time though. Maybe it’s just because Im not genetically inclined to do this but I just don’t improve like others do.

Also fun fact ancient people were far better runners than us modern slobs. In old documents its recorded the roman army would with 12-20 kilometers a day as part of their training. Apparently its because people walked different before decent footwear was invented and that cause their legs to be much stronger naturally.

Biologically speaking , we are long distance predators , like wolves (no wonder that is such an old relationship, us and dogs ), built to track game for days over long distances.
I do 5ks and I’ve never done a race in under 30 minutes. Came damn close a bunch of times .

@AthrillatheHunt how long did it take you to improve at all? It’s been four months and I can still barely do a mile.

@Captainjackass did you have long Covid? I still can’t run 3 miles without walking some of the last mile

@AthrillatheHunt I’ve had regular covid twice now. I can get maybe half a mile before I start losing energy and have to walk for bits.

@AthrillatheHunt I’ve always sucked at running long distances to be honest.

@Captainjackass the best I’ve ever finished in a mini triathlon is #9 in my age group . I only compete against myself and my only goal is finishing. Stay strong brolic
