His last three hits were three home runs in one game, driving in six runs playing for the Boston Braves. The real shame was he wanted SO badly to manage in the big leagues and no one would give him the chance.

My favorite athlete all time. Which MLB player ever led the league in ERA, shutouts and complete games as a pitcher then led the league in home runs, RBI and total bases (among other hitting marks) as a batter?

Do you like old movies and trivia?
There's a Harold Lloyd silent comedy called "Speedy" that features Babe Ruth as himself being driven to the ball park by Lloyd as the worst cab driver ever. Here's the trivia: you can catch a glimpse of Lou Gehrig onscreen for about a blink-of-the-eye-and-a-half... he is seen through the side window of the cab through to the driver's side after the cab gets Ruth to the park just in time.

@rinkydinkydoink Ruth made on e or two silent films of his own around 1920. I THINK in one of them he rescues and injured puppy and rushes it to a hospital. He never made it as a movie star.

absolutely right :)
But thank God Ruth was smart enough to let a professional handle the fortune he amassed through movies, endorsements and his pay as a player.

@rinkydinkydoink I always loved the story about the outrage when Ruth's salary went to a record $80,000 in 1930 (or 1931?) and caused outrage around the nation. When pointed out to him that his salary was higher than that of the US President, Ruth reportedly replied, "Yes, but I'm having a better year that he is."
