why do they allow fighting in hockey?

It adds some extra excitement to the game but it also allows the players to self police and protect their players.

The other team starts playing little dirty, focuses a little too much on your star shooter, starts going after the undefended goalie, or starts hitting a little to hard and rough you send out the heavyweights and enforcers to knock some sense into them and scare them back a little bit. Put them back in line. Or when the team could use a moral boost, knock some heads.

Again, lets the players police the game themselves and gives the other team something to think about before they start getting a little too rough and dirty or targeting other players for big hits.

It's fun to watch.

Because it pays.
Why do they allow hockey in a good fight?
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
To relieve the fans' boredom at watching players skate back and forth, back and forth, back and forth endlessly.
They don't allow it. You get penalized
Zonuss · 46-50, M
Because it's part of the game. 🏑
They don't. They get penalized for it

@britanyfl2003 They're penalized but the actual rules don't. Fact allow it and it is considered acceptable and allowable. There's even rules for what is and isn't allowed in the fight.
@MethDozer it's a very fast sport and very physical so it's bound to happen
