@Osogris In the 60s, practically every college and university in the US had (US) handball courts. My high school also had handball courts, as did many military installations. Handballs and gloves were available at practically any sporting goods store. As kids, we used tennis balls to play handball because our school had one wall courts, and the tennis balls slowed the game down enough to keep the game in play. A real handball on a one wall court would have you chasing the ball rather than playing the game :)

@Heartlander as Don't forget prisons. Handball is extremely popular with convicts and ex convicts.

@MethDozerit was a very practical game. Indoor handball courts took very little space and could be played 365 days a year. Also practically maintenance free.
