In a rare moment of rash impulsive fitness seeking, I’ve joined a ladies hockey team. I haven’t regularly played hockey since I was 16.

This is bound to end in bruises.

That should be awesome. I read the other day that there has been a pill developed that gives the user the same benefit as regular exercise.

@Fungirlmmm A pill? Sounds dodgy.

@Fungirlmmm Thanks for that. I hadn't heard of it and just looked in to it. Really interesting. It seems to mimic some of the benefits of exercise via metabolic pathways. But it appears it's designed for those who can't exercise due to ailments and diseases. Only been tested on rodents but it could be real breakthrough for those who can't exercise. I can't imagine it ever taking the place of exercise in healthy people though. At least I hope not.

@Ynotisay I agree. The grant on that was to expand that research to see what other benefits would come from it. There is also a drug in the works that will help those with PTSD to wipe memories and the same drug with changed molecules is supposed to restore some memory to Alzheimer patients. All good news for an aging population.

@Fungirlmmm I'm not a pill guy in any way but there are definitely positive breakthroughs taking place that are addressing previously untreatable conditions. And I think it's going to ramp up quickly via AI. For the aging population I can see enormous benefits.
Where it gets a little shaky for me, given people's propensity for quick fixes through a pill as is the case now with Ozempic, is that the farther we get away from the basics of healthy lifestyles the more issues will present themselves. If you take a pill it might speak to Issue 1 but it can also create Issues 2 and 3. And it also disengages the emotional benefits that come from exercise and a healthy lifestyle. We're animals and I'm not sure if getting too far away from that is in your best interest. But this will be really exciting time to help those who previously couldn't be helped.
