Just now watched the worse bit of cricket I have seen in decades

I remember watching Geoffrey Boycott letting 5 Dennis Lillee outswingers go past the bat.
He expected the 6th ball to be an outswinger as well. Lillee bowled an inswinger, Boycott let it go and was bowled.
Just now, a new batter came in, his first 4 balls were wides down the leg side. The next ball was on the stumps, he hit it back to the right of the bowler and he took off for a run. He expected the bowler to not be able to field the ball. The bowler fielded the ball, the batter was 3/4 the way down the pitch. The bowler threw the ball to the keeper and dislodged the stumps after fumbling the ball.
As with Geoffrey Boycott, he expected a different outcome, the batter here expected a different outcome.
The moral here? Never expect an outcome, play each ball on it's merits.
Sir Geoffrey….Yorkshire once delayed a declaration in Cardiff so he could get his century.
Killed the game but you couldn’t upset the legend.
Of course Ian Botham ,famously ,deliberately ran him out in a test in NZ…because he was playing for a draw.
Batsman often find dozy ways to get out….
Ask Johnny Bairstow.
Tendulkar would never have gone out like that.
