Why do competitive sports and games elicit so much violence from their fans?

174 people dead and 180 people injured in a stampede in Indonesia over a football match.
I think some weeks ago Hindus in UK were being attacked following a cricket match.

Why are people so identified with a team that they resort to such violence against other humans?

I think the reason lies in groupism. When they get the power of similar ill minded people with an advantage to not getting identified, accused & arrested individually, the devil inside them is free to act.

All the moral & civility was just because of the social & legal fear. The inside reality gets exposed.

@ABCDEF7 So that kind of barbarism is inherent in human psyche. Yeah. It is showing up in a lot of places.
