It's not inconceivable that the LA Angels baseball player could win a Triple Crown in either (or both!) the hitting and pitching categories.

Not sure about a Triple Crown. He doesn't hit for average. But he is definitely the most special player that MLB has seen in a long, long time. Pitchers have a regimen in between starts. He throws and goes out and plays the next day. It's unreal what he's doing. Big fan. And he carries himself SO well. I hope young people are learning from how he plays the game and behaves. A total pro.

Since he doesn't lead in any category for either with 3 weeks left in the season, and is 50 pts behind in BA, 22 HRs behind Judge, 30 RBI short of Judge, more than a full ER behind in ERA to Verlander who won't be pitching anymore, and 36 K's behind in strikeouts, I would say neither. The one possible category would be pitching wins where he needs 4 wins in 3 weeks to tie Verlander, but at least Verlander won't be adding any wins.

@dancingtongue "Conceivable" is all I'm looking for :)

@SW-User Wait Until Next Year is the mantra. 👍

@dancingtongue That mantra finally worked for the Bosox and the Cubs after decades of hope!

I’m a big angels fan. I see what he does it’s amazing. It’s hard doing one thing but doing both and being good at it. He could easily have 15 wins right now. Bullpen blew a lot of games and their offense sucks. I hope they don’t lose him after next year. Hopefully they can find a buyer for the team quickly. Arte isn’t a good owner

@Jeffrey53 The Bosox!

@SW-User I think they are rebuilding, don’t think he will goto a rebuilding team
SW-User
@Jeffrey53 Hmmm... I missed what you wrote about the possibility of new ownership in LA. That could be key. Anyhoo, it would be great for baseball worldwide - and sports in general - if he became all that he could be no matter where he played.

What is a triple crown in pitching?

He doesn't hit for high average so he is unlikely to be a triple crown threat in batting
SW-User
@Slade Wins, era and strikeouts.
SW-User
@Slade Babe Ruth - of all people - never won a triple crown in either category. He came up short in the batting average department oddly enough.
Ain’t doing it in hitting and will never do it in pitching if he stays with the angels
SW-User
@Nunlover It may be an odd thing to say but the Angels are stuck with Trout - the aging, injury-prone, EXPENSIVE outfielder so it's doubtful the Angels can afford to offer Ohtani what he's truly worth.

I agree with your comment about his batting average.

Would be awesome to see
SW-User
@Lackwittyname It would, for sure. At first I didn't like him for two, shallow reasons: he makes everything look too easy and, secondly, he's a threat to the cherished memory I have of my favorite baseball player of all time - Babe Ruth.

@SW-User Nobody will ever overshadow Ruth. He truly was a genetic freak
