Why do tennis player grunt when they hit the ball?

They act like it takes a great effort. You ever hit a tennis ball as hard as you can?

It's obviously a psychological thing.
I mean if you make that noise during a serve it gives the impression you hit the ball as hard as you could.
If you are receiving the ball you then have to 'counter' any 'strength' the server gained from them doing it....

Quite why it's allowed at all is sad really. Most manage-d quite well over the last 100 years without feeling the need to.
@Picklebobble2 really?

- I'll let the women in the delivery ward know that.

And - a ball looses velocity as it travels, force on receivership is less than delivery of it.

@OogieBoogie Does neither explain why they do it nor why its allowed does it ?
And what the hell does a delivery ward have to do with either the question or my answer ?
@Picklebobble2 ok ley me spell it out simple like.

Yes it does lose force,...
E=mc2 man. It physics... It's sorta a basic law of the universe.
I can't tell you why it's allowed, but it may have a little something to do with that it's a natural instinctive response when you throw everything yoy got into a physical act.... Which brings me to thr relevance of the maternity ward.

Or maybe it's freedom of speech

🙄🤷‍♀️
