@Pikachu watching people playing video games “professionally”
@gummybears

Can you tell me why you think that it's more stupid than watching people play sports?
And i think the quotations around professionally are unfair.
I mean they get paid to compete so by definition they're gaming professionally. And it takes a lot of practice and innate skill to compete on that level. Why shouldn't they be called professionals as much as a person playing a different game for a living?

@Pikachu its a video game, it’s different from real people playing in real time.. their emotions aren’t fake
@gummybears

....but there are real people playing in real time. They're not running around chasing a ball but they ARE competing, thinking and playing in real time.

Their emotions aren't fake either, they're exactly the same as anyone playing a sport: triumph in victory, disappointment in defeat, frustration at a bad play, satisfaction at a good one.

So what's the difference?
I mean, i get if watching a video game played isn't interesting to you just as watching football is boring to me.
But what's the difference between you watching other people play a sport and me watching other people play a video game?

It’s different
@gummybears

In what way?
You gave two examples of why you thought it was different and i've shown you that in fact those differences don't exist.
If you disagree then you can tell me why i'm wrong.
If you don't disagree then you can give me a couple more reasons why these should be considered different.

You haven’t shown me anything, I think what I think
@gummybears

Well...that's why i offered you the opportunity to give a counterpoint.

To review:
You gave two reasons why you thought gaming and sport were different in terms of spectatorship.
I explained why those differences do not in fact exist.
In the absence of a counter argument from you, the point stands.

So i'll offer this to you again:

If you disagree that i have shown that those differences do not exist then tell me where you think i am in error.
If you agree that i have shown those differences do not exist then give me a different example which you feel shows the differences between the spectatorship of gaming and sport.
