Is this the best World Cup you can remember?

I remember as far back as Italia 90 and this is the best I can remember.

Lot of 'odd coincidences' in this one unlike any other i think.
I've never known so many 'usual favourites' play quite so badly all at the same time.

Weirder still for England to NOT be one of them !
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Picklebobble2 The winners got knocked out in the first round and Argentina were lucky to get out of the first round.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@Burnley123 Wide open ! Never known it be that way before.
SAandME · 56-60, M
@Picklebobble2 Got to favour the winners of the France v Belgium match but then can this unpredictable nature continue into the final which as you said started way back in the qualifiers with Italy & Holland.
SAandME · 56-60, M
I don't know about the best for the quality of football but it sure is the best for being unpredictable. Also made more enjoyable by not having England just whimper out like we did at most major tournaments with our so called "golden" generation.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@SAandME Yes this England team is 'on paper' vastly inferior to that side but much more cohesive and better managed.
Yes, I've been watching them since I was a kid.
The women's World Cup has been like this a few time's, the men's, never this good. Every game has been unpredictable. So good!!
Northwest · M
Yes, but I only started watching a couple of cups ago.

@Burnley123 Well in fairness our ceiling should be considered the semi-finals for now. I present 1930 as evidence. 😎. And also this travesty courtesy of the English referee in the 2002 quarterfinals. [youtube=https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bg3psAYfOv8]
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@luckranger71 LOL. I think you mean the 1950 WC, when an amateur USA team beat England in one of the biggest shocks in history.

Yes, the US should have won the 2002 quarter-final and its a game you utterly dominated in open play. The team has never been quite as good since though.

Your game has come a long way and its tough in a place where it has a lot of competition. The point I made to NorthWest though is that there is a big gap between the top-tier and the second tier. Some nations plateau in the second tier; like Colombia, Japan and Mexico.
luckranger71 · 51-55, M
@Burnley123 I was aware of 1950 😎 but was referring to the U.S. making the semis in the inaugural WC in 1930.

Absolutely!
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
Did you really delete my comment? Fuck off.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@BlueMetalChick I deleted it because I thought it was a silly thing to say not necessary on a friendly sports post. But be as it may...

I've been called everything under the sun here and I don't bite back. Not even to you.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@Burnley123 Oh come on, the whole point of sports is to be unfriendly.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@BlueMetalChick You are entertainingly unfriendly but a bit much sometimes. It is what it is though. 🤦😂

TTYL.
Supesun · 56-60, M
Best one for a long long time 4sure. I’m just old enough to remember 1966. (I was 5). We can’t win it again....... CAN WE? 😱😱😱👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Supesun I don't think we are a World Cup winning standard team but a favourable draw means we have a real chance of getting to the final. It would be an upset to beat Belgium of France. Its unlikely but possible.

Since 66 defo.... 70 was good. England blew that really we should have win it on the bounce... but then there was Pele
XxXtentacion · 100+, M

thatscottishguy · 26-30, M

98 of course !
I was 2 but whatever lol
Ironicman · 56-60, M
I've loved every second.
luckranger71 · 51-55, M
I may be in the minority but I enjoyed both 2002 & 2010. 1982 was also pretty entertaining for a 12 year old watching on Spanish language stations.
Northwest · M
@luckranger71 They had one in 1982? :-)
luckranger71 · 51-55, M
@Northwest 😎 Yes. In Spain. Italy over West Germany in the final. Only the final was televised on a major US network (ABC). In the Chicago area the Spanish language stations carried the other games.
Northwest · M
@luckranger71 Yes, it was available only on the Spanish stations in California.
lorne13 · 61-69, M
The 98 cup was really good, so is this one but with the home team out it wont seem so exciting to watch
Such great football has been played. To gave only one goalless match in the tournament too.
