@Adec757 I'll cast my vote in favour of enjoying PE, in plimsolls @ first then totally in bare feet (inside anyway).

In the Northeast it was cool. The teacher was an Olympic athlete alternate back in the day. Learned how to train, how to do different sports, score them. Get knocked down a peg or two. Think you're hot shit until you have to do a routine on rings or goalie hockey.

In the South we had a sexual sadist coach and an assistant coach who was so obese she couldn't stand. So some kid would carry a chair out for her and she dump out a bag of balls and that was it. The head coach would try to find reasons to paddle kids.

Was never much good at anything athletic, and if kicking a ball from A to B was involved, it might go to C or D. A right butter-fingers too at catching. No, I didn't really enjoy it much.

Subsequently I developed an interest in non-competitive outdoor pursuits like walking, instead/.

Oddly, sometimes I will wear PE kit or similar just for relaxing in.
