Why is there both figure skating and ice dancing and why do some act like they ar vastly different?

Just combine the two. The differences are so small and arbitrary.

aside from all your opinions, i hate watching the ice dancing. it makes me wanna hurl. i like watching the figure skating, though, especially the women's singles.
MethDozer · M
@pentacorn Oh what they don't lift them high enough?
pentacorn · F
@MethDozer no, nothing to do with that.
the ice dancing, it's just too fanciful, feminine... romantic... creepy.
MethDozer · M
@pentacorn Ummm It's a type of figure skating. Of course it's feminine and fancy. It's all feminine and fancy.
pentacorn · F
@MethDozer yes, but one type much more so than the other.
MethDozer · M
@pentacorn Yeah, it's like how in the National League pitchers go up to bat but in the American League they don't and use a DH. Totally different.
pentacorn · F
@MethDozer i don't know anything about sportsball. that analogy is completely lost on me.
MethDozer · M
@pentacorn Well it's the same thing but minor arbitrary difference. Kinda like some silly rule about the lift and lands making a whole new competition.
pentacorn · F
@MethDozer lifts and lands aren't the only thing that makes them different competitions. things like 'expression', 'lyricism', and 'fluidity of synchronicity' count more in ice dancing.

just be happy you get to see the gals do their triple-camel-toe jumps on network television. ;)
MethDozer · M
@pentacorn That's all sillyness that could easily be combined into different parts of one event.

You got me there on the camel toe jumps. I now digress.
pentacorn · F
@MethDozer lol... you need to take this up with a higher authority. i'm pretty sure they're not gonna listen, though.

heheheee... finally, some common ground. :)
