Nowhere in the Old testament does it say that Adam was the first man. In fact the English translation for our word Adam is from two Hebrew words. One meaning a group of humans and the second meaning one particular man. With this in mind, Genesis 1 & 2 can be read as two separate stories and with a very large time gap in between.

The Bible is silent on there being other humans before Adam apart from some possible clues that there could have been.
Genesis 2:19-23 says that 'for Adam, no suitable helper was found,' so God created Eve, which might imply that there were other people already existing.

Also, when Adam's first-born son (Cain) murdered Adam's second-born son (Abel), they already had specialized knowledge of agriculture and husbandry, probably acquired knowledge from generations of farmers and ranchers outside of the Garden. When God pronounced punishment for the murder (banishment to be a wanderer), Cain pleaded with God to protect him from people in other regions who might kill him.

What does God say about your ideas on His Word?

@SW-User So if Adam was not the first man who was the first man?
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@GodSpeed63 the myth is silent
SW-User
@hippyjoe1955 The Bible is silent on that
SW-User
@GodSpeed63 why don't you pray and ask him yourself?
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@SW-User not sure I'd trust what answer he invents
SW-User
@MasterLee what makes you think that it would be an invented answer?
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@SW-User my mistake
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@SW-User Adam means "From the earth with a connotation of red earth or light brown earth. Eve means mother of all. The Bible is quite clear that Adam was the first man even as Eve was the first woman. Sadly your attempt to bring in evolution falls flat if you know the original languages.

@hippyjoe1955 there is Adam and
ha-adam. Two different words are found in the original Hebrew text. One meaning one specific man (Adam), the other (ha-adam) meaning mankind. I believe God created the world through evolution.

@SW-User The English word ADAM is transliteration of the original Hebrew. The words in the original Hebrew have very similar meanings. As for your link BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! Have you ever thought about how many years people have been trying to change the Bible's meaning with 'studies' only to be shown to be a fool? Your link is a piker in comparison. Too FUNNY!!!! Here is another theory I have heard and no I don't put any credence in it either. At man's creation man was a hermaphroditic species and later became male and female. Strange how we all want to read into the words what are not clearly there.
SW-User
@hippyjoe1955 well you are free to believe what you want.
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@SW-User As can you. The facts are not on your side. There is no textual evidence of previous people anymore than there is textual evidence of previous light or dark or world or water. God created. He brought all these things out of the potentials within HIM. Evolution is not required nor does it explain anything. It is a dud.

@hippyjoe1955 You are entitled to your opinion. I just presented a different understanding, one that shows science isn't a barrier to faith and people do not need to automatically choose atheism because they think that science is not compatible with what the Bible says.
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@SW-User Your idea is nonsense based on the premise that there is no textual evidence to support it. There were no other humans mentioned prior to Adam. The Earth could have been formed the way we now see it just as easily there was a long evolutionary process. God created. If He can bring about a universe capable of sustaining life and even life itself why do we need to add to that with some nonsense about other previous people or earth cooled by mist? Serious question. The fact is the author of your paper is simply trying to justify the evolutionary position with a layer of Christianity and in so doing destroys both. Either God created or we don't exist since evolution simply doesn't work.
SW-User
@hippyjoe1955 ok I'm not going to argue with you.
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@SW-User only because you have nothing to say. The premise you posited is nonsense in its face. It is not even logical
SW-User
You don't agree. I get it.

The Bible is compatible with science. Message me if you want examples.

why don't you pray and ask him yourself?

I already have. Jesus said that we must be born again in order to see His kingdom. We had a physical birth, now we need a Spiritual birth in order to know God for who He really is.
