"FEAR NOT" - Biblically Accurate Angels

If you've read the bible, have you ever wondered why that whenever an angel appears before a human, the first thing they always tell them is to not be afraid? The most common depiction of angels are these beautiful, heavenly entities with large elegant wings, dressed in long white robes, a halo gleaming over their head and never looking too different from human beings. Why would anyone be afraid of something like this?

Well, angels actually don't look like that. Not according to the bible. Humanoid angels do exist in the bible, but they're actually low-ranking angels. The higher-ranking ones - the real angels - look nothing like humans, nor like any creature found on Earth. According to the bible, these are what angels really look like...

After seeing these eldritch abominations, their often-repeated command of "fear not" becomes perfectly understandable now. As terrifying as they are, I personally find these depictions of angels a lot more fascinating. While I'm not religious, I like the idea of these holiest in the angel hierarchy being beyond human comprehension. It's often said that their ways are beyond our own. If you ask me, it only makes sense for them to appear as something beyond humanity too. It makes one wonder what God would actually look like. If these monstrosities are anything to go by... On second thought, maybe it's better we don't speculate.

Hope you found this interesting and not too nightmarish! If so, here's a biblically accurate angel meme to lighten things up:

Thanks for reading and remember, if anyone tries complimenting you by saying something to effect of you looking like an angel, maybe think twice about being flattered by it.

I've never wondered about that, because I figure just about any being just appearing before a human or other animal would be scary at first.

Cool and interesting post, though!
