In an election for president (or prime minister if you're a Briton) would you vote for someone who does not believe in god? [Spirituality & Religion]

I am quite surprised just now upon reading a poll which suggests that the majority of people in many western countries would be less likely, or even refuse to, vote for a nonreligious person.

Religion, most notably Christianity, is tied to the value system that much of western society shares. Also, I think there's a certain logical fear that people have of making someone powerful if they don't believe that there is a higher power above them.

@lightningblue The USA separates church and state, but that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about individuals. People in the west, whether they know it or not, are very much attached to Christian morality and values.

If you think these are what Christianity boils down to, then you're clearly overlooking the basics, such as forgiveness, charity, fidelity, renouncing violence, individualism over collectivism, ...
