Hey christians! Let's get this straight: [Spirituality & Religion]

When debating whether or not god exists, the burden of proof is on you to show that god exists.
It is not up to atheists to prove that god DOESN'T exist any more than it is on you to prove that leprechauns don't exist.

Why do you single out Christians?

@kingfish2:

Because that is the religion to which the majority of theists on this site ascribe and the one with which i am most familiar.
Feel free to broaden my point to include all theistic claims of a deity.

@MetalGreymon: Fair enough. What are your thoughts on Islam?
MetalGreymon · 36-40, M
@kingfish2:

None really. Don't know anything about it.
Beyond the fact that their god is essentially the god of the bible and doesn't exist either...

@MetalGreymon: Okay, so you subscribe to the belief that every religion is false?
MetalGreymon · 36-40, M
@kingfish2:

yup. at least those claiming a supernatural deity

@MetalGreymon: I can respect that.
@kingfish2: Because they won't cut his head off or throw him off a building.

@puck61:

Yeah, people do stupid things in the name of their imaginary friends
@MetalGreymon: It's amazing how something imaginary can make people so angry and bitter!
MetalGreymon · 36-40, M
@puck61:

What are you angry about? There's no reason to be angry.
Theists just believe that a creator made them.
They're wrong, or at least there's no empirical reason to suppose they are right, but that's no reason to be angry or bitter.

@puck61:

You said it's amazing how people can be angry about something imaginary.
I say, just don't be angry. I never am.
@MetalGreymon: Then why are you calling people out over something imaginary?😎
MetalGreymon · 36-40, M
@puck61:

Because while the subject matter is one of faith, the debate is not imaginary 😏
@MetalGreymon: Dogs are better than cats! Prove me wrong.
MetalGreymon · 36-40, M
@puck61:

Utterly dissimilar scenario.
We are not discussing a subjective preference.
We're discussing the burden of proof for a given claim and upon which party that burden lies. In this case assertion of a creator god.
Good try though😉
@MetalGreymon: It was an excellent try because it accomplished what I intended. You typed a response! You won't accept the proof that you are standing on, or the proof that makes your heart pump your blood, or the proof that breath in, or the proof that any of your five senses picks up every second of your life.
What is your goal? What is your objective? Why do you spin your web Mr Spider?
MetalGreymon · 36-40, M
@puck61:

Ok... Not a goal that is particularly relevant to the current subject matter...but good for you!👍

It sounds like you feel there is proof. Is there any reason that i should take your proof seriously or is it just like "look at the beauty of a sunset! obviously god must exist!" ?
It's good enough for me, and I don't go around posting snare questions to try and establish some feeling of smug self satisfaction and intellectual superiority by engaging a non believer in a debate where neither side has an irrefutable source of proof other than "life, the universe, and everything".
MetalGreymon · 36-40, M
@puck61:

Oh I'm sorry you feel that way.
Why do you characterize them as snare questions? Certainly i believe that i am correct but that doesn't make my interest in the debate anything less than genuine.
Maybe you shouldn't be so quick to think the worst of people.

And you'll notice that this is not a debate about irrefutable proof of god. This is a debate about the burden of proof and who it falls on.
@MetalGreymon: Oh...okay. I would think that the burden of proof should rest with the one making the claim. This is your post, cowboy, not mine! 😁
MetalGreymon · 36-40, M
@puck61:

Yeah i totally agree. The party making the positive claim bears the burden of proof.

So if is say bigfoot is real then it is on me to prove that he exists, not on you to prove that he doesn't.
@MetalGreymon: Non believers turned Atheism into a religion and made science their God, and Darwin their prophet. So settle the 50,000 year old debate and whoop out some science and usher forth the dawning of a new age of freedom from religion! You can do it! I believe in you!
MetalGreymon · 36-40, M
@puck61:

I just want to take this out of the triggering context of god.

If i say bigfoot exists, is the burden to prove he exists on me or is the burden on you to prove that he doesn't.

Please answer that question🙂
