Let me break this down very simply for you.

You made the following claim:

I contested that claim, saying that from an atheist standpoint there is no reason to assume that nothing existed or that nothing is even possible.

So you are claiming that materialism says in the beginning there was nothing.
That is a positive claim which according to the rules of debate you are required to prove.

So....prove it.
Or slink away, tail between your legs and pretend insults disguise your inability to debate the subject.
