ok I can't get on board with this, one cringeworthy fedora does not make all young people stupid
When I was young, I didn't know a lot of stuff, I hadn't been through university or owned a car or home or had a real job. I hadn't seen a generation's worth of changes. I hadn't been married for 20 years.
But I wasn't an idiot. I was writing Macintosh GUI software and Mandelbrot set generators in Pascal when I was 18.

@crossproduct: intellect has very little to do with the idiocy of youth, I find. Could be all those hormones, & self righteousness.
But I'd bet you believed you knew the answers & that older people where all just out of step, that's what I'm talking about: Arrogance

@Sonnet: I'm afraid you lost that bet, you owe me one q-tip. Please don't generalize. The only thing I felt that way about was computers, because it was true.

@crossproduct: you were special then. Go you, I wish I hadve been more like you!

@Sonnet: idk, I was mired in a sea of uncertainty about everything, and that was around the time I started questioning whether the universe had any kind of tangible existence at all. I didn't know who I was, or even what I was.
I was angry at the way the world was, but I had no solutions and basically despaired. I thought Boomers were too ideological and there were still a lot of nakedly racist bigots and violent homophobes around when I was young.
Mostly I just concentrated on school and work and drinking and unhappy music.
tx for being gracious 😘

@crossproduct: you sound more like the average teen there. Overwhelmed pretty much.

SW-User
@Sonnet: yeah, in that respect I was, it was too much to deal with. Arrogant I wasn't, though.

@crossproduct: I hope it passed though, & that you've found some kind of contentment.

SW-User
@Sonnet: oh definitely. I feel so much better and happier now than I did then, I got many of my problems resolved, and that did take years and years.

@crossproduct: well, good. I'm delighted to hear that 😀 Coming out the other side is a wonderful experience
