Don't you think this strange that some people believe aliens but not god? [Spirituality & Religion]

I thought that God/Allah etc was a word for a superior being??
Fernie · F
That would be me. Makes a hell of a lot more sense than some guy in the sky running things
Fernie · F
@Curiousguy833: OH! So..."Do you really think we are biggest or strongest in the universe? Or that "aliens/god(s)" have the same limitations as we do?" you meant a general "you" not me specifically...because NO..I sure don't think that...we agree then!
Curiousguy833 · 31-35, M
Lol am questioning everything today... for all I know you could be a alien :p
Fernie · F
@Curiousguy833: That, to me, is a very open minded and healthy way of thinking CG!

Given what we understand of the nature of the universe, and of ourselves, it is actually highly probable that there is life somewhere else out there, and we are but an example, and we can make a best educated guess on that end, without yet presented with the hard evidence, we can say that is likely.
The existence of god, on the other hand, has no evidential backing, and does not even lend itself to the probable.

@Shadowstep: *is not even going to bother*
Shadowstep · 26-30, M
@mougywolf: *starts laughing* nah man it's ok I was just referencing Lincoln98
Curiousguy833 · 31-35, M
@mougywolf: haha you guys are funny. First thanks for answering I always like hearing what other people think and am opened minded and willing to see things from other people point of view. So here is my thoughts (the sane version at least :p )

You say your answer is based on what you know about the nature of the universe and ourself... but that is the first problem, what do you personally know about the nature of the universe or even yourself apart from what you have been told by others? You might have seen some experiments to back up a theory in physics or whatever but even you know we live in a world where if you look hard enough you can find information in bits and pieces to back up anything you already have your mind set on. In fact the word "fact" doesn't mean something is set in stone, it's just the most accepted theory and has not been proved wrong yet e.g ( it's was once a fact that they world was flat and that come from experts)

So don't you think that it's crazy that we accept without question these "facts" told to us by other people based on the effects of things we know nothing about
Yes indeed. I've always found that odd.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
Ah, the reason for that is simple.
Since the creation of faith (any faith)There has always been one human or more telling YOU what YOU should be doing. What YOU should be thinking. What YOU should be focusing your attention on. etc.
And it's THAT bit that causes so many to reject religion or faith or whatever you want to call it.
Aliens ? Well, real or not. No human DEMANDS that you follow a doctrine or dogma surrounding them.
Curiousguy833 · 31-35, M
I think it would be cool if there a demonstration in front of a full stadium of people to prove there was a one true God! ...but if you were a higher being e.g god why would you settle for a small show of power when you could show yourself to the whole world and get people to follow your will by force? Religious people would argue that god had done that with beings like angels...they were perfect in every way but they didn't have free will. So he created us and put us on this universe to see if will would follow principles/ order (which got changed though time like the Chinese whispers lol)

You might think that the idea of a higher being which is capable of creating all that we know is far fetched but the irony is that we see it all the time when you look at creatures like dogs, fish, ants etc. imagine trying to explain to this creature that you a small human, created something like a skyscraper lol

Even in science there is so many things that we don't even know, for explain we don't even truly know "what" is? All we know this effects of it and have created up our explanation of what we see or the fact that the universe is make up 90% of dark matter and we don't even know what it is! Lol

All I am saying is that we can't be close minded as a people, and there is no thing as too much knowledge. Am always willing to listen if people information that makes sense..
Curiousguy833 · 31-35, M
Sorry about the long post lol but I thought I would play the devil's advocate and make you see that things are not black or white
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@Curiousguy833: And therein lies the problem !
SW-User
Definitely, same with the concept of ghosts
Curiousguy833 · 31-35, M
@HijabbaDabbaDoo: interesting...🤔 But I think it's harder with ghosts because there is not much prove to go with that ( there is nothing to say that any real evidence of "ghosts" are people who pasted away.. some would say that it points to other species that is living among us... but I think that's a stretch
Xuan12 · 31-35, M
Not that strange really. If "god" was just a word for a superior being, then if I were stronger, smarter, and faster than someone, I'd be a god to them. But that's not really what it means.
Curiousguy833 · 31-35, M
That's a pretty interesting definition, so a god would be a being that has great power and can break the laws of the universe? And you say that an alien would not be able to do this because they would be bound the physical laws of the universe?

What would make you think that if their was aliens they would be bound by our definition of the laws of the universe.

Don't you think it's a little arrogant of us to think that we have understand the laws of the universe when we are nothing but a speck in it and though our history we have been wrong so many times and had to update our understanding of the universe and even today there is things in the universe that define the standard laws of physics e.g dark matter etc

Don't you think it would be a little closed minded to discard anything in this ever changing world we live in?
Xuan12 · 31-35, M
@Curiousguy833: We both already answered this question. While sufficiently advanced technologies may appear to break the laws of physics to us, we also have the ability to appreciate that that may not be the case. It could simply be that we didn't understand the laws well enough in the first place, and their understanding is more accurate. Even now, physicists are hunting the holes in our understanding to try and make was seems impossible, possible. There's been much excitement over something called the EmDrive, since it appears to be pointing out a gap in our understanding of electrodynamics. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't, but it shows that humans are quite receptive to refining our physical models. I don't think it's arrogant to assume that a technology advanced beyond our own isn't breaking the laws, it's just operating inside them in a way we don't understand yet.

I mean, suppose an extraterrestrial showed you a device that does something you thought impossible. Would you assume that the alien's civilization has a better understanding of the physical universe than we do, or assume that they must be gods?
Curiousguy833 · 31-35, M
I agree, I think we both answered the questions or at least gave our thoughts on it.

I like your answer and I always love hearing other people's interesting point of view.

As your last question, if "aliens" showed me by a device that could do the impossible I would think they have a better understand of the physical universe but at the same time I wouldn't be closed to the idea that they might be a god. Honestly speaking I think the hardest thing would be to put aside my human pride and accept the fact that I know nothing about the universe or this whole existence and try my best to go forward with a blank slate and ask millions of questions lol
SW-User
God would be an alien from another realm of existence. The rest of your question I cannot understand.
Curiousguy833 · 31-35, M
@Peekaboo: what I am trying to say is that.. what if that alien that you are talking about used tech/knowledge to create us?

Keep in mind that we live in world where we create all sorts Roberts and tech everyday and even create breeds of animal that people can't even imagine
DeecemberGirl · 31-35, F
You still fixing houses for living?
Curiousguy833 · 31-35, M
@LynnisMe: ?... I guess you could say that. Am good at fixing things and keeping things together but even I come across some things that just can't be fixed 😛
DeecemberGirl · 31-35, F
Paul?
Curiousguy833 · 31-35, M
@LynnisMe: ...I don't know what you are talking about 😨🙄🚶🏽
It is, a bit. While it's not completely unreasonable that some might think along those lines, aliens and God being very different things, I find it pretty laughable when the most smug of atheists boldly put their credibility on the line over belief in aliens.
