Opinions on religion

Perhaps you've heard the catchphrase: "God helps those who help themselves."It might have come up at a dinner table during the election. In our day, this phrase comes up in political banter more than any other place. One side claims that Jesus gives everyone a fair go at life, so all you have to do is work hard to succeed. At one level I agree: we should strive to be personally responsible where we can be.The other side appeals to all of the passages about feeding the hungry, and says that this phrase certainly doesn't mean that we leave people to their own difficult circumstances.(For my friends who aren't American, this probably doesn't apply, but feel free to chuckle at us from a distance ;-))Where both sides are often wrong, I think at least, is in the assumption that this is even a helpful or "Christian" saying at all. It's not.

The phrase "God helps those who help themselves" implies that everyone will, equally, wish to TRY to help themselves. Such is not the case. Some people just roll over and wallow in their lack of almost everything...including ambition, (losers and users). Some people create their own disabilities...(drug addicts and alcoholics).

So...does God abandon the feckless and irresponsible? NO! God created bleeding heart liberals to enable all of the welfare users, who have one baby after another, every year, deliberately to keep their benefits coming, most often out of wedlock .

They enable the drug addicts by making drugs legal and by providing the addicts with syringes and crack pipes at no cost to themselves.

They pity the alcoholic bum sleeping on the streets and try to create shelters and programs to help him. (None of which he will employ, or even want).

God, in His wisdom, created a world in which the feckless and irresponsible do not survive. Bleeding heart liberals, without wisdom, wish to make it possible for these people to survive indefinitely, with programs paid for by ALL taxpayers.

And I do NOT include those who are genuinely physically disabled, or the frail and elderly who can no longer work, in my condemnation.
