Why Trade The Truth Of God For The Lie Of Satan?

12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”
John 8:12

31 Then Jesus said to those who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:31 & 32

42 Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and came from God; nor have I come of Myself, but He sent Me. 43 Why do you not understand My speech? Because you are not able to listen to My word. 44 You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. 45 But because I tell the truth, you do not believe Me. 46 Which of you convicts Me of sin? And if I tell the truth, why do you not believe Me? 47 He who is of God hears God’s words; therefore you do not hear, because you are not of God.” John 8:42-47

In this fallen world of ours, there's always going to be the Truth of God and the lie of Satan. Even though God granted us freedom to believe what we wish, He gave us common sense of responsibility to believe in His Truth rather than the lie of Satan. He also granted us freedom of speech but gave us the common sense of responsibility to speak His Truth rather than the lie of Satan. He also gave us the freedom to live our lives with wisdom but gave us the common sense to live them according to His Truth rather than to live the lie of Satan. God gave us the freedom to worship Him with wisdom but He also gave us the common sense to worship Him in deed and in Truth.

Freedom and Responsibility go hand-in-hand, you can't have one without the other lest your life goes into chaos.

In spite of what some may think, God's Truth will always remain solid truth.

Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away. Matthew 24:35

God never fails to a promise that He makes. Not one promise has He failed to keep in spite of what some may believe.

"Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened." Matthew 24:34

That generation passed 2000 years ago, yet the things promised have not yet happened. So that's one promise that God failed to keep.

What generation was Jesus referring to, the generation that was living at the time or the generation that will not pass away?

@LeopoldBloom You see? You point out the flaws in their mythbook, and the first thing they do is engage in deceptive wordplay. That proves they know it's bullshit.
@GodSpeed63 He was addressing the people standing in front of him. There's no indication he meant any other generation outside of your own eisegesis. If he was addressing some future generation that would not pass away, he wouldn't have needed to say anything because that generation would be aware that they weren't passing away.

"Hey, Marge, I just realized, I'm 8,426 years old! I don't think I'm ever going to die!"

How do you know?

@GodSpeed63 Occam's razor, numbnuts. He was making a speech to people standing in front of him.

@SW-User I love this. This is a perfect example of the bullshit you people push. A speech that was clearly, simply, and straightforwardly meant for his contemporary audience, you claim is for future generations thousands of years down the line.

Read the whole chapter and get back to me on it. You call us cherry pickers, that's what you're good. We use the whole Word of God to present the Truth with. I don't know what you use your cherry picking for, that's your choice. Just leave us out of it.

I love it when people like @GodSpeed63 assume that just because I don't believe the Bible, I must not have read it. They love to fall back on that. That, or screaming about context. Have you noticed that, @LeopoldBloom?

I don't make assumptions, just letting you know that you have not understood anything, whatever part you've read, in the Word of God.

When should we believe @GodSpeed63, folks? When he says:
I don't make assumptions...
Or when he says:
just letting you know that you have not understood anything, whatever part you've read, in the Word of God.
@SW-User That's one way to interpret it, but it's also a fact that the early Christians expected Jesus to return at any moment, because they viewed themselves as the generation that would witness his return. When it became clear that wouldn't happen, they had to focus more on preserving their faith, which is why the gospels were written so long after the events they purportedly describe.

@LeopoldBloom This makes even more sense when you factor in the so-called swoon theory. The idea that he faked his death on the cross, and staged a so-called resurrection for everybody.
@LordShadowfire I'm pretty sure the resurrection story is fabricated. He died on the cross, was buried, the end. The resurrection was a legend that cropped up afterwards. Think of all the people today who think Elvis and JFK Jr. are still alive.
LordShadowfire · 100+, M
@LeopoldBloom Wait, you mean to say that Elvis is dead? 😭

But no, seriously, I genuinely don't think he died on that cross. The clues are there in the text. Someone brought him a sponge with what was purported to be wine, and he drank it and immediately "died". Then a Roman poked him in the side with a stick to make sure he was dead, and they took him down. At that time, his friend was there with healing herbs that serve the purpose of pulling infections out of wounds, and packed him in it before putting him in a cool, dry place to recover.

Anyway, that's just my opinion from what I've read.

@SW-User So, all I'm seeing is a bunch of references to a book, and then references to movies which are references to the book, but I don't see anything that proves the book is accurate.

A lot of babbling going on from the skeptics' side which they have nothing to show for their intelligence.
@GodSpeed63 truth!

Still waiting for that evidence you claimed to have.

Tried that. Didn't work out so well. What else have you got?

When you show me evidence that God doesn't live, then you'll get your evidence.
Tried that. Didn't work out so well. What else have you got?
I seriously doubt that.
