People wear crosses either to signal to others that they're Christians, or because they like how it looks as a piece of jewelry. It's the same reason people wear stars of David or pentagrams or hang dream catchers from their rear-view mirrors. Personally, I consider it in poor taste to advertise your religion like it's a club you're a member of, but if people want to do that, that's up to them.
