I find nothing spiritual in the Bible. The Old Testament is all about God being a jealous angry prick and either killing people or ordering followers to do it for him.
The New Testament is about this really good guy Jesus giving everyone life lessons, which is is nice but it's all stuff that should be inherent in us anyway. It's How To Be A Good Person For Dummies. Nothing I find spiritual.
But I respect everyone's right to believe what works for them, including Christians.
Unfortunately too many Christians don't return that, in my experience.

@robingoodfellow No one has done more to turn me off to Christianity like Christians.

@JollyRoger Somewhere between the Christians' uber-faithful adherence to religious text and your outright dismissal of that text lies the truth.

@JollyRoger @Graylight
What does Jesus say about Himself?
And to them, Jesus was just a man not a deity.
What does Jesus say about Himself?

@GodSpeed63 You tell me. And authorities, because we can only guess at what Jesus had to say and it certainly wasn’t in context or part of any tale.
Don’t use the Bible, because you don’t even know how to. Tell us, please, what Jesus said using a completely independent source.

@GodSpeed63 Prove He wrote it.

@GodSpeed63 Prove to me an ancient man wrote letters to people in a culture we know almost nothing about in a language that's dead anyone wrote anything.
@robingoodfellow
You respect nothing. Especially Christians. Maybe when you change your attitude and practice what you preach, that will change (i.e.

@LadyGrace I don't tell Christians what to believe. But Christians tell me what to believe.
If Christianity works for you that's great. It's where you find your spirituality. I don't. But Christians are forever telling me I should.

@robingoodfellow Well you're right.
The reason Christians spread the gospel is because when Jesus was here, he told his disciples before he left and ascended into heaven, to tell the good news to everyone about salvation in Jesus, so that they would know how to get to heaven. But if you're not interested, they shouldn't keep bugging you.
But I will say that your description of the Old testament is not accurate. God had made a promise to his people that he would protect them from enemies and when the enemies attacked his people, that is when God retaliated to protect them. It was Pharaoh that wouldn't let God's people go and kept them slaves and God told them for many years to let his people go but they wouldn't listen and then finally Pharaoh said okay you can go but after they left he changed his mind and gathered a large army to go after them to kill them all and that's when they had to fight back and God defended them.

@robingoodfellow Christianity is just a means of controlling the gullible.

@Graylight There is a need to 'think through' what we read - You did that when you responded to me..... the truth is in there somewhere! Good thinking!
I was a policeman in my career and I know from experiences of interviewing people (good people) that memory is not always 'truth', that emotions and circumstances 'color' our memories. And, if you remember that game where people sit in a circle and whisper a phrase in their neighbour's ear and that 'truth' gets whispered from ear to ear around the circle - most often it's very garbled (ofen funny) when it returns to the person who started it. So it is with stories that have been told for centuries without having been written down (there were no books in Adam's nor in Noah's days). So, it is up to the current day reader to sift through the stories and make sense of them FOR OUR OWN LIVES. The issue with that is: Many people take the stories verbatim and then apply them to other people's lives (PASSING JUDGEMENTS) and thus try to control others. I see that is a 'sin' in itself as 'The Bible" says that we are not to cast judgements on others: "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone", so Jesus said - and NOBODY threw a stone!

@JollyRoger No one is casting judgment and careful reflection is always a good thing, but it only makes sense if the material being reflected on is authentic and accurate. Which cannot be proven well with the Bible.
