Any who have acknowledged, invited, and received Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and live according to His Word, are called Christians....followers of Christ. Christians believe denomination has nothing to do with salvation, since Jesus died for the sins of all, not just certain people. Anyone can choose to follow Christ. He turns no one away. It is a commitment to Christ. Not religion. Religion is described as man-made philosophy, which Christians do not follow. They follow God and His Word.
@sree251 Yes. Christianity does not follow man-made religious philosophies. Christians follow Jesus. The person of Jesus, not any worldwide religious group. Following Jesus Christ as Savior has to do with having a personal relationship with a real person, like you would your best friend.
Religion has nothing to do with salvation. Religion didn't die on the cross to save us from the consequences and condemnation that sin placed on mankind. Religion is empty without Jesus Christ. Religious people worship idols are anyone other than Jesus. While it was Jesus alone who did the work of saving us on the cross by shedding his blood for the atonement of our sins. A real person did that. Not man-made philosophy called religion. We need to give credit where credit is due and no one deserves the honor and praise of saving us from our sins, like Jesus.
Man-made religion holds no promises of salvation. Nor does it offer a Plan of Salvation. It leaves man to think he can get to Heaven by his own self efforts. While it was God the Father Who created The Plan of Salvation because he knew what it would take to save mankind from his sins. He didn't need help with that. He never gave man the authority to change his perfect Plan of Salvation. Man can try to do it his own way and get to Heaven by his own good deeds or works, but Jesus said that will never work. Following Christ as Savior, is a commitment that one keeps for life. Salvation is never determined by our performance as confirmed by scripture. Jesus had every one of us on his mind when he suffered and died on the cross. That makes it personal, not a religion.
Anyone can have "religion". Anyone can step into a church and call themselves a Christian, but that doesn't mean they are....any more than going to the zoo, makes one turn into a monkey. That certainly calls for no commitment, and that's why some are just happy to follow any religion because it's easy and they don't want to make the commitment. Following Jesus means you take responsibility for your sins, confess them, Jesus forgives them, then sends His Holy Spirit to live in you, as proof of your salvation in Christ, and as a gift from Christ, who teaches us about God and many other things. Then, being a new creation in Christ, we live according to His Word because we love him; not because we have to. Because we want to. There is nothing personal about man-made religion and it has nothing to offer mankind, because it deviates from God's perfect Plan of Salvation. Even the devil believes in Christ and His Father, but he's not a Christian. He's not going to heaven. Father God never once in His Word, said, "Come to me through this or that denomination, or join a certain denomination." No....He said to come follow Him if we want everlasting life with Him in heaven.
He never left us to guess the right way to find Him, or how to have salvation. He told us exactly the standards that were set by His own Father in Heaven, in order to have salvation, and that never included religion of any sort. Salvation is not confined to any one certain denomination or group of people, but open for any in the whole world, who wants to be saved through Jesus.
Religion says, "Do your best!!! Work your way to heaven!" Jesus said, "I've already done the hard work for you. Trust me and let me save you."
