What might happen or will happen if a person is striving for riches and money?

Let's let the Bible answer that:

1Timothy 6:9-10 says:

"But those who are DETERMINED to be rich fall into temperature and a snare and many senseless and hurtful desires that plunge men into destruction and ruin.
For the LOVE of MONEY is a root of all sorts of INJURIOUS things, and by reaching out for this love some have been led astray from the faith and have STABBED themselves all over with many pains."

Keep in mind that money is NOT the root of all evil, it's the LOVE of money that causes a person problems. The Bible at Ecclesiastes 7:12 says money is a necessity/protection: "For wisdom is a protection just money is a protection."

When a person loves money they will do anything to have it and keep it. Remember the Ojays song?

@LordShadowfire you're absolutely right, without reading the Bible you can see all around the results of greed and the results from people striving after riches. The Bible just cosigns what's going on in the lives of people that want to be rich. As far as the Bible being a book of fairy tales you're not by yourself in feeling that way as well. Many like you believe that way. However, I've found from a serious study of Jehovah God's Word the Bible, not fairy tales, that it is very reliable in helping me and millions to feel happy and content with the necessities of life rather than strive for an over abundance.
