@zonavar68 And we have an election coming up in which we are all OBLIGED to vote in less that 12 months.

@whowasthatmaskedman In Australia nobody is legally required to vote - we are legally required to be marked off the electoral roll as having turned up with ID. Nobody is compelled or forced to actually cast a vote and there aren't armed gestapo at each polling place brandishing weapons to intimidate people into casting a vote. People just do it out of sheeplish habits.

Yes, the PM is head of Government.

@ArishMell In the UK, the Queen appoints the PM and asks him or her to form a government - "Her Majesty's Government"

@NortiusMaximus Yes - but the Sovereign still represents the State, or the nation if you like; and the Prime Minister is still the leader of the country's administrator that actually makes the policies and laws.

It's a way of reminding governments, and us, that they are there to serve the nation not vice-versa.
