We are a secular nation. The Bill of Rights states:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof"

In the U.S. people may believe in any religion they wish, or be an atheist, without fear of repression. What they may not do is attempt to force their idea of religion on others.

@badminton
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof"

That still doesn't make it a secular nation. Even though they may not be born again, most religious people call themselves Christians and believe in the one true God and Jesus Christ and Holy Spirit.

@CopperCicada You forget to add Isreal to that list - it's not really a country.

@zonavar68 Is Israel a theocracy? It’s an ethnostate but are its laws drawn from religion like they are in the Islamic theocracies?
zonavar68 · 56-60, M
@GodSpeed63 Which is why so-called christianity is effectively a cult.

@GodSpeed63 Our laws and government are secular. Religion belongs in church and home, not in government or public institutions.

@badminton Re.Ligion belongs anywhere, but so does non-religion. We need freedom FROM Re.Ligion not freedom OF Re.Ligion. Ignorance of others due to their beliefs is intolerance, and Christianity is the bastion of intolerant attitudes.

@badminton yet it keeps forgetting the exercise of part, just because an elected official talks about religion is not creating a state religion, which is what that means, not shall not promote. Yes, we allow all religions in this country, but freedom of choice is still a Judeo-Christian value!

@CopperCicada I do not know where you get your information but that is DEAD WRONG!! Islam is like that, they even promote lying to "infidels" aka non-Muslims where as Christians accept all, we just hope and pray that all turn to Jesus who is the way, the truth, and the life but God gave us a choice and made us ALL in his image.

@CopperCicada not real Christians any more than those so-called prosperity gospel preachers are. The constitution is clear on that yet there are those in government that want to take away Christian rights, no one in government is suggesting what you stated, only fringe and non-Chrisitan people masquerading as Christians

@CopperCicada That is not my belief nor what I am asserting here. I believe in equality and love for all people.
