Yet in Deuteronomy it speaks of a divorced woman getting remarried, falling out of favor and getting divorced again, but now she’s defiled.
Bottom line, it was an archaic patriarchal society that looked upon women as lesser than men. The fact that she would be defiled after being married and divorced twice screams of sexism.
Yes in Luke and Matthew it says if a woman gets divorced she has to wait until he dies to remarry. So yet another inconsistency in the Bible. At the very least it’s a misinterpretation of the original text. So much for the infallibility theory.

@Adstar Sorry, a bit rusty here. It’s Romans 7:2 that speaks of her being bound to her divorced husband until he dies. Luke 16:18 and Matthew 5:32 are about it being adultery to divorce or marry a divorced woman

@Jpfunjunky Ok if you read the verses you will see in the case of Romans 7 that the woman has not yet divorced her husband.. So this is talking of a woman being bound to her husband for as long as he lives if she is married to him.. Of course divorce was open to them as an option in certain circumstances if they had a legal divorce then she could marry another man.. I post the passage below for you to read..

(Romans 7:2-3) "For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband. {3} So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man."

As soon as she divorces Her husband is no longer her husband under the Law..

@Adstar I was raised around people who believed as the OP does. Romans 7:2-3 doesn’t specify that divorce frees you from being bound, so they believe it to the letter. I’m not of that persuasion. Personally I gave up on Christianity long ago.

@Jpfunjunky It seems to me that you gave up their interpretation of Christianity.. And you seemed to assume their interpretation of Christianity was Christianity..

I was born into a devout catholic family and they had another interpretation of the will of God different again.. I gave up their interpretation of Christianity when a friend gave me a Bible to read in my early 20's..

I did not give up on Christianity.. I wasn't a Christian, i was a catholic.. I became a Christian when i read the Bible..
