What does the egyptian ankh represent really ? [Spirituality & Religion]

It's a symbol that represents life itself, and ultimately, eternal life.

@4meAndyou yes but how exactly ? I googled it and I am not satisfied with the results.

@revenant That's not surprising. Scholars are unable to agree about the original meaning. Some say that it's a sort of yin symbol, or similar to our own symbol for the female. In chinese symbology, yin symbolizes the earth, female receptivity, and darkness. This makes sense in terms of our means of disposing of our bodies, and also ties in to the beliefs of the ancient Egyptians.

@4meAndyou indeed its form is similar to the astrological venus but the Egyptians revered feminine goddesses like Sekhmet or Bastet but what about RA then ? life seems to be yin and yang to them also. Or perhaps their notion of afterlife was feminine which makes some kind of sense.

@revenant Inside the great pyramid we see the male influence. The ankh for female receptivity and darkness and eternal life...but also the shaft that pointed toward the sky so that the Ka could ascend.
