Currently, there is a rather misleading thread which asks...

"For my creationist friends who reject that evolution has occurred: What do you consider to be the best COUNTER-EVIDENCE that evolution has occurred?"

This question is misleading. Most Creationists believe that God created a world with many Kinds of creatures and that these creatures multiplied and grew in diversity. We believe that God used genes as building blocks for creatures in the same way that we might use cement to build very different structures. Similarities between creatures that are of different Kinds are simply the result of having the same building blocks. A dome structure and a skyscraper might both use cement but the similarity means nothing. It means nothing in biology as well.

Similarities between organisms might be used to classify organisms but using similarities to make assumptions about origins is ridiculous!

I am, however, thankful that God gave each Kind of creature the genetic ability to become diverse. So, we have many kinds of birds... many breeds of dogs... etc. Some call this ability evolution... but it does not imply that dogs came from an ancient bacterial ancestor. lolol.

So, does evolution occur? Yes, within each Kind of animal, of course! Does that mean that Darwin's dream might have merit? Of course not. The intricacies of nature and the masterful use of genetic building blocks implies a Creator... an organic architect and engineer.

There is nothing misleading there. And what you provided was not evidence, but a fanciful “what if?”

What if the universe just popped into existence a second ago and our memories are simply simulated fakes? Can’t prove they’re not 🤷‍♂️

The biggest issue with that style of thinking is that it’s essentially paralysis. There is an infinite number of these “what if” scenarios out there that you cannot ever disprove - and it’s precisely because of that they’re all useless.

One of the strengths of a scientific theory like evolution, is that it can be disproved with even a single piece of well qualified evidence. This is what Pikachu is really asking you for here.

@QuixoticSoul ok so the counter arguments are
1. A lot of assumptions about the research being valid. You’re not invited to the award ceremonies if you’re a creationist! Satan is guiding the world! Those who come to the table adding God to the mix are discounted! There is question about the validity of the research therefore!
2. The assumptions about why there are similarities in genetic information! Similar descent is just one assumption and one explanation! God is another!
3. So now the retrovirus in the DNA coming from common descent is one explanation! God is another! God does things sometimes to throw a curb ball in the mix to test our faith! He says he even deceived some who have rejected him and he gives them a retrobate mind.
4. That God told us that he has made us after our own kind is another counter argument
5. That God is saving still and he walks with those people is another counter argument that maybe We shouldn’t jump to conclusion regarding why we have similarities in animals
6. God can make anything look old! He can make Adam and Eve look 20 in one day so surely they were not 20 years old but one day! Similarly the world does not have to be old just because it looks old!
7. Why does the earth look so old? Because God cursed it so it’s premature aging!
He says his creation is “groaning”

It is important to analyze everything and not jump to conclusions about anything! As for me and my house we shall love the Lord! He helps us and guides us!

@Carazaa None of that is evidence. It’s just more of the “ but what if ...” scenarios that I was talking about.

Creationists get invited to science conventions (award ceremonies lol?) when they do actual science. When they do theology, they get invited to theology conventions.

@Carazaa When I say that you have an issue with epistemology and basic philosophical underpinnings of the scientific methodology, this is what I’m talking about.

Scientific evidence is evidence that serves to either support or counter a scientific theory or hypothesis. Such evidence is expected to be empirical evidence and interpretation in accordance with scientific method. Standards for scientific evidence vary according to the field of inquiry, but the strength of scientific evidence is generally based on the results of statistical analysis and the strength of scientific controls.

“Some people said god says something” doesn’t qualify as evidence in this discussion.

@Carazaa “God created the universe” does not qualify as a scientific theory or hypothesis for a simple reason - it’s not a falsifiable assertion. As such, the existence of the universe as a piece of evidence can neither support nor counter it.

And none of that has anything to do with evolution either, except in the most general sense imaginable.

I have read and studied science research of the brain for many years and have a Masters degree in science. I have been called as an expert witness on many occasions so I am quite aware of what is considered science evidence.
Evolution has a lot of holes that are patched up with assumptions to fit the theory in my opinion! @QuixoticSoul
