yes people are wretched self-indulgent undisciplined opportunists. (may be talking about myself here) who need someone to be held accountable to

@Pikachu well, for me it's not about doing well for other human beings in general, that comes naturally. it's more about making moral personal choices and having a guide to what those are. i think they may be different for everyone. i'm no goody two shoes so I need the help. if you are perfect in every way then maybe you don't need a distant father figure but i know i sure do. i relish the guidance i receive personally. otherwise it's like floating on the sea in a life raft with no one coming to help you. and honestly, I do view God as like a sky father figure but also as the whole of humanity in itself, so I do let other people guide me sometimes as well. but of course everything in line with my personal belief.

That’s almost the only way to make it. @Penny

@Pikachu i'd still say yes, especially if one takes a pantheist view. if God is humanity, we learn morality from one another. some moral stances such as what is fair and what is not fair, may be inherent in individuals but i'd say it is mostly learned. like for example look at the seven deadly sins - this is a God based idea which we can learn of ourselves and of others from. the basis is morality. can you tell me one soul who has never been guilty of any of these?

@Pikachu i didnt read that in a book. someone told me that. maybe they got it from a book though. who knows? oh, i thought theist meant something else. (just looked it up) i suppose i am a theist then - noun: theist; plural noun: theists
