My kids liked Daniel in the lions den, David killed the giant with a slingshot, and Joshua fought the battle at Jericho, because God helped them! the Godly men always wins! It helps us to focus on God!

@Pikachu I never put it that way I put it like this the angels of God came to sodom and Gomorrah with the word of God to save their cities but the people didn't want to listen and wanted to do them harm so the Godly men in the city said attack us instead! God burned down those cities for their sexual sins and violence!

Definitely one of the most horrifying stories i've read in the bible so far.
I mean, the mass murder of men, women and children as a matter of course is monstrous but this is just disgusting.
Weird how the story of an individual can produce more sympathy than the slaughter of thousands.
lol humans, right?

First,
This man gave his girl!
Oh i don't think i'm going to accept framing this story as a man sacrificing a woman he cared about for some good.
1) Pushed her out the door.
2) Raped all night
3) Get up, let's go.
No. You can't give him credit for this which is what it sounds like you want to do by comparing to Abraham being willing to sacrifice Isaac or God sacrificing Jesus/himself.
But anyway, i'm not sure this is meant to be representative of god's will.
It does after all say that "In those days Israel had no king; all the people did whatever seemed right in their own eyes."
It's just a messed up story and i'm sure you'd agree.
And of course that it's a very similar premise to Sodom and Gomorrah which makes it seem like this is supposed to be what a good man would do. Saving himself at the expense of a woman in the cruelest way possible.
Disturbing.

I think it's more true to say that people can be evil. And that's why i don't think we can say that everyone deserves death.
But i don't want to get into what we each think of humanity's relationship with god. I know you find that upsetting.
All this thread really is, is just a big "holy shit!" to this story.

@Pikachu well God gives us these stories to show how wicked we are! And time and time again God tells us we deserve death! Many are in denial about humanity but nowhere else than the Bible will you find the good guys saying we deserve death! Thr Bible tells us the truth! It is horrifying! We are all sinners even the good guys in the Bible. This is one reason it is the truth.
@Carazaa
Oh i don't think telling us stories of some people who are monsters is in any way convincing that humanity as a whole deserves to die.
When i read this story i was honestly really surprised that god didn't punish this Levite for his horrifying crime.
I thought this was going to be about god punishing wicked acts. But no, the Israelites just all got mad at the men of Benjamin and god said "yes, i'll let you beat them".
