God tells the Israelites that among the punishments for disobedience is: [Spirituality & Religion]
The LORD will bring a nation from afar, from the ends of the earth, to swoop down upon you like an eagle—a nation whose language you will not understand, 50a ruthless nation with no respect for the old and no pity for the young
And that sounds terrible! What a monstrous people these invaders would be!

...but isn't that also describing the Israelites? When they entered the promised land they were ordered to wipe out every single person down to the last child.
I guess what i'm asking here is, are the Israelites the good guys or are they just the strong guys?

I'm just really having trouble with this idea that wholesale slaughter of women and children is right and just from the perspective of a chirstian.

Yep... but if you have faith, you must believe that he is all wise and never makes a mistake. The were chosen of God to be a called out people chosen... and to bring us the Messiah.... and the Bible... and many things yet to happen centered around them.

Which is another challenging notion considering how often things go badly.
I mean, some would consider having to wipe out the entire world except for a handful of people to be indicative of a mistake. But if god can't make mistakes then he always wanted or intended to kill all those people.

I dunno. It's a hard pill to swallow
