As an atheist why do I want to believe in God?And if there is one I will find out when I am dead.
Carazaa · F
@TheSirfurryanimalWales True, but you might not like to have to pay for your sins at that time. Just saying...

@Carazaa Not if post-mortem salvation is available. Pastor Rob Bell (author of "Love Wins") provides scriptural support for that viewpoint. According to him, God's love is stronger than hell, so people there can accept him anytime they want. But if that's true, that kind of makes your absolutist religion meaningless.

@Carazaa If I don't believe in someone's religion that makes me a sinner in Their religion ?

@LeopoldBloom There are those who believe that we will have time to repent after we are dead. I personally don't see that after reading the Bible since most people arenot going to heaven. Of course we wont know until that time. You can read Sams storms article about this more "Enjoying God". But there are many verses eluding to there is a day where judgemet happens and most will not enter heave but will stand for judgement. Jesus words in Matthew 24:29
"Immediately after the tribulation in those days the sun will be darkened and the moon shall not give its light and the stars shall fall from the sky."
And when the Godly die they go straight to heaven, 2 Cor 5:8
"To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord"
"I Jesus has sent my angels this testimony to the churches I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the bright and morning star"
He says
"All are without excuse" His eternal power and divine nature has been clearly perceived in Rom 1:20.
"Although they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give him praise but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened." Rom "1:21
[b]"And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and the books were opened, and another book was opened which is the book of life. And the dead were judged out of the things that were written in the books according to their works."
I hope you are right but why do they stand before the throne if they had had a chance to change their minds and repented and gone to heaven already?

@softspokenman Got ya! We have to repent, and be humble, that is true. Most people don't want to do that but I care about you and hope you will reconsider.🌻

@Carazaa Thank you.

@softspokenman The standards of the 10 COMMANDMENTS in Genesis 20 are what will judge us when the books are opened for all people, and they will nail us "guilty"!
God has said
"All have sinned and come short of his glory."
And Jesus says
the first commandment is
"Love the Lord will all your hearts, and with all your soul, and all your strength And the second is Love your neighbor like yourself there are no commandments greater than these."
That is the standard. If we ever sin even once then we will not enter heaven. We are really all doomed, so his own arm reached down to redeem his people from their sins. Jesus took all your sins and you will go to heaven if you love Him.

As an atheist why do I want to believe in God?
I don't know about wanting to believe in a god, necessarily. Although i suppose it might be comforting to think that daddy has everything under control.

The agnostic's dilemma:
“From whence came this universe?
Did He create it, or did He not?
Only He who is the Lord of all knows;
Or perhaps he knows not.”
