Can we stop saying that atheists are afraid to believe in god? [Spirituality & Religion]

Who the heck wouldn't want to believe that death is not the end and that we'll be reunited with our loved ones?

It seems to me that in fact fear is one of the strongest motivators TO believe in a god which soothes the terrors of death, oblivion and separation.

Well atheism is nothing but people that like their sins and are mad at God and Christians for disturbing a nice evening with their preaching. They feel good in their sin, they like to FEEL good. Because God requires change. They are feelers.

Christians are logical and look at their life and see that it isn't worth it to be stubborn and reject God. I am a person who feel deeply but wont act on my feelings all the time because I rather want Heaven, success, and God to answer my prayers! I want a nice life not a bunch of disasters. And you are right it is because of fear of God because I see peoples lives and I want his blessings. But I'll admit its a process to get there. And God has to draw a person to himself I believe, before He saves them.

But that's not true. I'm not an atheist because i want to sin. I'm an atheist because i find the evidence that a god exists to be unconvincing. How can you claim that atheists are mad at a being they don't believe in? Are you mad at jafar from aladdin or Cruella from 101 dalmatians?

This is an atheist sitting here telling you this. Are you going to accept that as an answer or will you insist that you know better?
Carazaa · F
@Pikachu Yeah I know better, you are making excuses I believe!😉
Carazaa · F
@PikachuYou seem to know what motivates Christians right? You said we are afraid of God? You know better?
@Carazaa

Isn't that a little arrogant?

You accused atheists of not wanting to hear answers. Isn't that what you're doing right now?
You, a theist insist that despite not having the experience of being an atheist, you know better.

Would you think it was fair of me to insist -even in the face of your explanation - that you only believe in god because you need a security blanket against the fear of death and oblivion?
JBird · F
@Carazaa unfortunately that's your excuse. For us, that's the truth.
JBird · F
@Carazaa

You said we are afraid of God?

Isn't that pretty much drives you? If you don't follow him, you'll end up in hell. That's what this is all about, isn't it?

@Carazaa I'm not mad at God. I'd like to know what sins you think I like. I appreciate your belief in God and will only argue with you about creation and misinterpretation of science. But the idea that I'm mad at your God and that I like sinning is ridiculous.
Carazaa · F
@Pikachu You just accused Christians of fear based logic, be aware of that!
Carazaa · F
@Pikachu I am not ignorant! Don't accuse me of being ignorant!
@JBird

Nah. She loves him too.
JBird · F
@Carazaa

You just accused Christians of fear based logic, be aware of that!

We have been doing that all our lives. Nothing happened to us because there's no God.
@Carazaa

I didn't say you are ignorant, i said you were being arrogant.

You seem to know what motivates Christians right? You said we are afraid of God? You know better?

ExACTLY, carazaa. Exactly!
It's my view that theists come to faith in large part as a comfort from the terrors of the unknown.
But if you tell me that you, carazaa believe in god because of evidence in your life (and you have), i'm not going to sit here and insist that you're wrong, that i know better and that in fact you just believe out of fear.

Do you understand what i'm saying? Why i characterized your earlier statement as arrogant?
JBird · F
@Pikachu the question is does he love her back? Bible doesn't make God sound like a loving person 😁
Carazaa · F
@Pikachu Don't tell me I am arrogant when you make a post saying Christians are Christians because of fear being the biggest motivator. That's not arrogant?
@Carazaa

Let's just both relax here, carazaa.

Did you understand the point i was making in my last post? About your reasoning for your belief superseding my assumptions about why you believe and that perhaps you should consider granting me the same courtesy?
JBird · F
@Carazaa @Carazaa this post never once talked about Christians, if you read properly. But there are posts accusing atheists by Christians
Carazaa · F
@Pikachu I stop listening when you accuse! Whenever you come up with accusations you can expect someone to point the finger right back at ya! You start your post by assuming "Christians" are motivated by fear in your post! How arrogant is that!
@Carazaa Wait. What was that about atheists?
They are feelers

So Christians don’t feel?
@Carazaa

Well i'm sorry i offended you. I took offense as well, i'm just trying not to let it get in the way of a dialogue.

So let's just divorce ourselves from offense and discuss the point logically.

Did you understand the point i was making in my last post? About your reasoning for your belief superseding my assumptions about why you believe and that perhaps you should consider granting me the same courtesy?
Carazaa · F
@JBird No people who believe in God, you are right!
Carazaa · F
@PikachuPlease if you want to discuss then please don't blame, and accuse! I am sorry too!🙂 Even though I am very hurt in many ways and upset with you but we can deal with that at another time.
@Carazaa

Well let's move pas that then and discuss.

So did you hear what i was saying earlier? About respecting the explanations offered by the other person instead of claiming to know better?
Carazaa · F
@Pikachu If I say It another way, like in your post would that be better, +It seems to me that the biggest motivators for atheists is sin," would that be upsetting to you?
Carazaa · F
@JBird Well heaven is the motivator, and being blessed by God!
Carazaa · F
@wilderflower I think a strong Christian will not always act out their feelings because of wanting to please God!
