Fundamentally, as much as we wish to deny it, it would work the same way regardless of the replacement. People need ideals.

I already replaced it with humanity in my life. I wish people would put humanity before everything else no matter what that thing is.

People have been replacing it with politics. They believe in it with the exact same fervor and are willing to kill for it as well.

Religion can't save anyone, only Jesus saves. A relationship with God through Him by His Holy Spirit is way better than religion could ever be.
