So...god already knows what will happen in the future. And god is infallible so that means you can't change it...so does free will actually exist? [Spirituality & Religion]

I know that this is an old question but i've never really talked about it before.

And this is compounded if we believe that biblical prophecies are legitimate.

How do we square inviolable predetermination with free will?

I suppose so yes because even though god knows your choices they’re still choices. (Though I don’t believe in god. I believe that the term god is metaphorical for our subconscious self.)
@Spoiledbrat

But if your choices are known in advance doesn't that mean you were never going to make any other choice? If it wasn't a possibility that you could make a different choice, do you have free will or are you just following the script?

@Spoiledbrat your answer kinda resonates with my thoughts
I think so because the choice was still given. @Pikachu
@Spoiledbrat

Is it really a choice if you could never make a different choice?
SW-User
@Pikachu you can, that's why it's called a choice. Think of it this way.. you get a choice to do something and nobody knows what you're going to choose then you make a choice out of total free will and according to your choice other plans are made after
@SW-User

If you were never going to make a different choice, do you really have free will or was that choice predetermined?
SW-User
@Pikachu you're interpreting it wrong.. it depends upon your perception of it
@SW-User

I'm interpreting it right.. it depends upon your perception of it
SW-User
@Pikachu you have all the free will to choose.. once you understand that some force/power/god let's other things fall into place. Just because someone or something knows what you'll do it doesn't have any affect on you
@SW-User

If some force/power/god already knows which choice you're going to make, then do you actually have a choice or was that decision always the one you would make?

@SW-User But wouldn't a truly omniscient God be aware of all the choices that will be made and already put into place the responses to them? If that is the case, every choice becomes a Hobson's choice.
SW-User
@Pikachu that depends upon your perception 🤷‍♀️.. it's not black and white
SW-User
@Bushranger my response is the same to you as well.. perception
Bushranger · 70-79, M
@SW-User So you are saying that we only have the perception of free will. Yep, I can get on board with that.
SW-User
@Bushranger I mean we can't be sure what is and what isn't and we only percieve things as our limited brain capacity allows us. Trying to find a solid answer to this is a moots point

@Spoiledbrat So your subconscious self can save you in disaster? I believe God can.
I believe I am the only one that can. @Carazaa

Wow I would have never made it alive when my car spun out on the San Diego freeway at 8 am if God hadn't opened a path for me and my car stopped one mm completely parallel to the middle cement divider. I yelled out "Please God don't let me hit anybody and my car spun around 3 times on a 5 lane packed freeway going 85 miles an hour. I had been listening to the rolling stones, putting on my makeup and wasn't paying attention and didn't realize the freeway had come to a stop in the pouring rain.

There was trucks and cars packed. How did I get from the right lane to the left lane without hitting another car when I spun out?? When my car was facing the wrong way in the fast lane the cars all stopped and waited for me to turn my car and continue to work. I still feel like God opened the waters for me like He did for Moses.
That’s good. I’m glad you feel that way. @Carazaa

@SW-User I think I have to agree with you. While I might believe that I have free will, I may well not have. Alternatively, even if I believe that I don't have free will, I well might have it. Just depends on what my underlying belief system is. Also, while I have my perceptions, you have yours and both are equally valid for each of us. It all comes down to belief. At least, that's what I think you are saying.

@Bushranger yeah more or less
