Is there anyone here who respects Kent Hovind as a rational debater and an honest representation of the faith? [Spirituality & Religion]

I prefer not to say negative comments about anyone, however many people are not Christians just because they say they are. You shall know them by their "love."

We are living in a world right now that has more divorces, affairs, people have lost houses, jobs, families, etc. so there are many who think that this is evident that there is a big conspiracy and they start "groups" to feel safe. I feel for them, and pray for them. I think we don't live in a kind world. Jesus talked a lot about this. (Not about this group ha, ha,) but about men's hearts growing cold, and false beliefs in the last generation. It is a sign of our times.
@Carazaa

I don't really know what to think about that to be honest.

Hovind's faith appears to be as strong as anyone's i've ever seen. It's just that he's also a dishonest huckster.
The issue for me is that once we start getting into who is and is not a "true" christian, we're really just engaging in a no true scotsman fallacy.

@PikachuI am a Christian and God requires us to be loving and witness. I am harder on Christians than others I have to admit that, Because Gods reputation is at stake. We are His representatives. And he has called us to keep ourselves accountable, to be the light of the world, and the salt of the earth. We shouldn't go off on tangents like debating science, or politics. We should be about helping people, volunteering, feeding the hungry, etc.
Carazaa · F
@Pikachu Many Christians are persecuted and harassed a lot. He might have strong faith and it might be that there are just lies about him. I don't know enough.
@Carazaa

Well i'm certainly not going to try to convince you that christians ought not to be loving lol.
Sadly there are some people i've spoken to here who are anything but. People who even try to use the bible as an excuse for their desire to be shitty.
it might be that there are just lies about him.
lol nope.
Trust me, i've watched a lot of kent hovind debates. He also went to jail for tax fraud.
Carazaa · F
@Pikachu And some go to jail actually being innocent of the crime, right? I think it is pretty terrible when media gossip and slander people.
@Carazaa

Oh kent doesn't deny that he did it.
And he's got a bit of a history with legal troubles:

It's not slander when it's true😉
Carazaa · F
I believe in paying taxes, I love taxes ha ha.
Carazaa · F
@Pikachu When you say some are not very loving here, are you talking about me?
@Carazaa
are you talking about me?
Nah.
I don't think you're particularly interested in thinking about questions that challenge what you believe, but you're certainly friendly👍

No, there's at least two self-identifying christians who spring to mind. They frequent this board and politics and hurl abuse at anyone who disagrees with them.
Particularly where religion is concerned.
@Carazaa
I believe in paying taxes, I love taxes ha ha.
lol well i'm with you on half of that anyway
Carazaa · F
@Pikachu What! 😲 I am very logical and I love to debate but after I answer a question, like your post, I gave you my 3 reasons, but then you argued that it was not sufficient. That wasn't good enough for you. I got A's in physics and chemistry and I have a Masters in Science and I have superior analytical skills ("Natural logic" a logic teacher told me in college, one of 2 out of 500 in her lecture halls she said).
I believe it's because when I was saved at 7 yrs old I asked God to give me wisdom, and he gave me wisdom. Your arguments are illogical in your evolution post, and I frankly don't want to waist my time arguing an illogical statement. But I like you anyway 😏
@Carazaa

I don't think there's anything illogical about my evolution post.

I detailed the observable facts as they exist and explained how they are incompatible with an interpretation of the bible wherein all animals were created at the same time and most animals died during the flood.
I don't recall you giving an account of how creation explains that.
I remember you saying that you refuse to believe anything which contradicts the bible.

If you would like to show me your superior analytical skills, i suggest you begin by answering that question.
Or, if you feel you already answered the question, i'd appreciate it if you copied and pasted what you felt was the pertinent answer.
You may do so here or in the thread pertaining specifically to that subject.

If you are content to simply call my arguments illogical (without explaining how
or why they should be considered illogical) and refuse to answer difficult questions then i must continue to hold to my previous conclusion regarding your honesty in debate and your willingness to expose yourself to problematic concepts.

But like i said, whatever else you may be, you're polite and friendly🙂
Carazaa · F
I would love to debate all kind of subjects, but there are 2 problems
1. Eventually science does not have all the answers yet. So eventually there is a standstill, and if us Christians mention God at that point then we are scorned. A young earth or old earth does not unprove God. Some scripture are not literal, but still inspired by God. But to say that God can not be in the debate because we don't see Him or he is a monster who loves spaghetti is not logical when the answers to some questions in science can not be proven either.
2. And the amount of ridicule we get for having faith in God is more than illogical, it is spiritual in nature. I feel stalked by some here, not you... but others who have not left me alone maybe your closest homies. It hurts to care so much for people, and they hate back.
@Carazaa

Those will not be problems when you're talking to me. I promise.

1) i don not set out to prove that science has all the answers nor do i set out to disprove god. I mean to prove that the evidence that evolution has occurred is superior to any evidence to the contrary.
2) You'll get no ridicule from me for believing in god. Never.
I would love to debate all kind of subjects
Well great.
Now that i've given you my guarantee that those two problems you mentioned will not be an issue between us, we can get to the debate.

So let's start again with the stratified fossil record.
I'll repeat the argument here for your convenience.

If the creation account in genesis were true and all the animals were created over the space of a few days then we would see that in the fossil record.
We would see trilobites and dolphins and cats and dinosaurs all in the same geological layers.
But we don't see that.
This problem is further compounded if one believes that noah's flood happened because most animals on earth would have died over the period a few months and their remains would unavoidably be mixed together.

Instead we see the stratification of remains.

If animals were created as described in genesis and died in the flood, how do you account for this evidence in the fossil record?
Carazaa · F
I have to go to work, I will think about this at work, however you are already assuming your statements are true. And I don't assume anything so I have to check your data. You see if the data is not correct at the beginning then we don't end up with the truth at the end.
@Carazaa

Well i'm not assuming my statements are true. I judge them to be true based on my understanding of the data.
But you're right. If you input bad data then you're not going to get a good result out of it.
So if you can find legitimate sources which refute the fact that organisms are stratified in the fossil record then of course you should bring that to my attention and we can discuss it further.

You go to work and have a think.
My question will be here when you feel prepared to address it🙂👍
Carazaa · F
You think you're so cool with all your answers, but I will pray and see what insights God will give me.
@Carazaa
You think you're so cool with all your answers
Um...not really sure what to say to that. I do try to organize my responses clearly and logically, if that's what you mean.

Pray it up!👍
I'll be here🙂
