Is religion the cause of hatred and crime? [Spirituality & Religion]

sometimes people twist religion to meet their own want. We humans are the ones causing crimes and hatred.
It is a good contributor
People have been killed throughout history for not answering the "god" question correctly.

Evil people will interpret things that serve their own purposes.

Plenty of things are the cause of hatred and crime. But to answer your question, yeah, it can be.
Money is the root of all evil

It's the love of money that's the root of all evil.

Religion is jus an excuse people like to put blame on.

I think it can cause people to behave in certain ways according to religion.
For example ISIS are committing crimes against humanity. They take their version of Islam seriously and carryout crimes and acts of hatred against western society under the banner of ISLAM.

The cause? No.

I believe that is what caused religion.
Anyone can pick a topic and blame it for all the trouble in the world. People are the cause of the problems. Whether it's ignorance or indifference, or some belief , if it is intent on hate and destruction, it doesn't waver. You can claim anything, but if you hate or maim or kill, you not religion or other excuses are to blame.

When your culture is based on the teachings of a book. It has a profound influence.
Religion was invented as a control for the masses. Fear is a powerful tool for control. And people interpret things in books and "speeches" in vastly different ways.

I do agree, individuals are ultimately responsible for their actions. But some don't have any presence of mind outside the smoke & mirrors of religion. And believe that their sins will be forgiven.
Even bloody Priests can be pedos.

It's just bollocks to me.

I think it was Mark Twain who said...if people are so bad with religion, think how much worse they might be without it.

sure doesn't help but no.
It must be. A minority of atheists with something to prove (and lots of it) must know something
