Be honest: when you read the bible what makes you think it is of divine origin? [Spirituality & Religion]

There was a time in my life where i really wanted to believe and i tried hard to have faith and asked with all my heart that god reveal himself to me. But predictably he did not. And the more i read, the more it became obvious to me that the bible was the work of men.
So base and petty and violent. This was not the work of an enlightened being.

So what makes you feel that the bible is of divine origin?

I have never read the bible.
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@Mrjingleswilly You have missed anything. There are much better, more entertaining works of fiction.

The Bible is God's own words to humanity, written by Godly men who were told by God exactly what to write. And in the last verse God warns that if you change anything in this book adding anything He will add the punishment in this book and if anyone takes away anything he will take away the rewards(heaven) so nothing is added. You can trust it. Read all of Genesis and God will speak to you and your life will be changed Pray for wisdom from God before you read though. He will give you wisdom!@Mrjingleswilly

@Carazaa
The Bible is God's own words to humanity, written by Godly men who were told by God exactly what to write.
Then why are there so many differing versions?
Mrjingleswilly · 51-55, M
It’s not the wisdom I seek. @Carazaa
Carazaa · F
All the versions say the same thing. Because some people don't like Elizabethan English.@suzie1960

If you don't want to know what God says to you then you have that choice.@Mrjingleswilly

Not exactly the same thing but, according to you, it was
written by Godly men who were told by God exactly what to write.
Carazaa · F
Yes exactly the same. I can write a scripture in English, or French, in modern English, or Elizabethan English (All the same meaning) If you take a Shakespeare class you have a choice to read Shakespearian English, or modern English, same meaning though.
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@Carazaa Exactly the same means exactly the same, no difference at all. If Shakespearian English were exactly the same as modern English, for example, it would not be possible to tell them apart.
Carazaa · F
It has exactly the same meaning. We read for meaning, nothing else!@suzie1960
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@Carazaa Which meaning? Where two or more statements are contradictory, they have different meanings. I know you deny there any contradictions, despite a small selection being pointed out to you, but they're still there waiting for you to reconcile them.
Carazaa · F
I think you need to read the Bible more carefully. There are NO contradictions. You don't study the Bible carefully. I have been reading and studying the Bible since I could read. That is my life! You just want to argue with no point. Please come back to me in 2 years when you have read the whole Bible again, carefully, asking God for wisdom to understand every word.
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@Carazaa I have read and studied the bible, obviously more carefully than you have. I posted a link to a few of the many contradictions so I don't know how you can say there aren't any. Anyone who follows that link will see them for themselves so will know that you're wrong. Repeatedly denying the truth won't change it.
Carazaa · F
Can you send the link again please I might have missed it, sorry. And I will get back to you and explain those verses since some are hard to understand.
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@Carazaa I posted a couple of links at least so I don't know which you missed. I know I posted these two but you just dismissed them simply saying there weren't any contradictions. Try reconciling them instead.

I have read the whole Bible and I promise you there are NO contradictions. I was going to do you a favor to help you see that. I have not dismissed you. But I think you just want to argue and be difficult.@suzie1960
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@Carazaa I've just given you links to a whole load of contradictions so your claim there are none is clearly false. Those contradictions are just a very small subset of the total. If you ever manage to reconcile those, I've plenty more for you to deny exist. Simply saying they're not contradictions is not the same as reconciling them.

I've read and studied the bible. I could just promise you there are contradictions but, instead, I've done better, I've actually presented the evidence.
Carazaa · F
You are very disrespectful and evil!! I have asked you NOT to contact me again! I will not look up Satanic websites, that are not Biblical.
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@Carazaa You could just cease posting if you don't want people to comment on your posts. Sorry but I can't let lies and misinformation go unchallenged.

The websites I linked to are not Satanic, you just like to call them that to avoid addressing the evidence because you know they're right. I feel sorry for you. :(
@suzie1960 You seem to be presenting misinformation. Maybe you should do more research.
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@latinbutterfly Please clarify, what misinformation do you believe I've posted? I do quite a lot of research but it is possible I've missed something.
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
I see carazaa has blocked me because she couldn't refute the evidence. :)
@suzie1960 They do that when they're faced with facts. They expect everyone to swallow their propaganda without question and they're nonplussed when faced with someone who doesn't.
@NortiusMaximus @suzie1960 You people get on my nerves 😡! Just can't ever except a point of view that is different than yours, can you? Always trying to shove your views down people's throats! You are just totally incapable of having a normal, civil discussion! That's probably the reason why she blocked you, suzie. I doubt it has anything to do with the facts you presented.
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@latinbutterfly Could you clarify what misinformation you believe I've posted please?

I'm happy to accept that other have different beliefs and I find it interesting to discuss and compare opposing points of view. I pointed out some contradictions in the bible but she just said there weren't any. She didn't even look at the evidence, using the excuse that it was on a Satanic website!

I have no problem with respectful christians who can accept I don't share their beliefs. I've have several interesting and polite discussions with many of them. The ones I object to are those who expect me to accept everything they say without question or resort to childish insults when they can't answer a valid point logically.
