Be honest: when you read the bible what makes you think it is of divine origin? [Spirituality & Religion]

There was a time in my life where i really wanted to believe and i tried hard to have faith and asked with all my heart that god reveal himself to me. But predictably he did not. And the more i read, the more it became obvious to me that the bible was the work of men.
So base and petty and violent. This was not the work of an enlightened being.

So what makes you feel that the bible is of divine origin?

The history it holds throughout the ages and the different people God worked with to write it.
@GodSpeed63

But if you're impressed by the different people god worked with to write it...aren't you saying that part of the reason you believe that the bible is divine is that god was responsible for it?
GodSpeed63 · 61-69, M
@Pikachu What impresses me is that I learn something new whenever I read it. If you mean that God, Yahweh, was responsible for it being the truth by writing it himself through holy men at their time, then my answer is yes.
@GodSpeed63

Can't say that i've found the same.
GodSpeed63 · 61-69, M
@Pikachu That's because you were thinking with your head, which a man ought not to do, instead of with your heart. No, I do not mean your heart of flesh either. The trouble with you is, you're so busy trying to discredit God, you can't see that the Knowledge of Him comes from within a person and not from without. I feel sorry for you. You have eyes but you don't want to see and you have ears but don't want to hear. That's the mark of the fool in proverbs. I say this, not to insult you but let you know that you're insulting yourself and need to correct course.
@GodSpeed63

I can understand why you might feel that way about me.
But the fact is (and i think i may have told you this before), there was a time in my life where i was totally willing, open and eager for god to reveal himself to me.
I read the bible. And unfortunately for me, it didn't speak to me. It didn't open my eyes or feel like something beyond us must be responsible.
It was just a profoundly human book. By humans for humans. There are good parts, boring parts, funny parts and all human.

At least that was the only feeling that i got off of it.

@Pikachu That's almost exactly as it was for me. I started reading it wholly believing it was "the word of god" but it soon became clear I was wrong. It's little more than a mish-mash of scribblings by various people, often in disagreement with each other.

That's you present yourself in your posts on here. Correct me if I'm wrong.

@GodSpeed63 I don't understand what you mean.

You're another one that thinks with your head, which a woman ought not to do, instead of with your heart. No, I do not mean your heart of flesh either. @GodSpeed63 So what do you mean by "That's you present yourself in your posts on here."? Is the question too difficult for you?

You keep overlooking (or deliberately ignore) the fact that [@Pikachau] and I were christians who believed in "god" when we read the bible. It was "the word of god" (as you like to call it) that convinced us there was nothing in it.

I'm not trying to discredit your "god" thing either. There's no point because it doesn't exist in reality, it's all in your mind. You ought to try engaging your brain and thinking with it sometime.

@suzie1960 @Pikachu
So what do you mean by "That's you present yourself in your posts on here."?
Isaiah 6:8-10

8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying:
“Whom shall I send,
And who will go for Us?”
Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.”
9 And He said, “Go, and tell this people:
‘Keep on hearing, but do not understand;
Keep on seeing, but do not perceive.’
10 “Make the heart of this people dull,
And their ears heavy,
And shut their eyes;
Lest they see with their eyes,
And hear with their ears,
And understand with their heart,
And return and be healed.”

You poor skeptics who trust in their own minds rather than use wisdom.

@GodSpeed63 Meaningless rubbish. It certainly doesn't clarify your statement "That's you present yourself in your posts on here." What language is that meant to be in anyway?
GodSpeed63 · 61-69, M
@suzie1960
Meaningless rubbish.
To you, but to me, it's still the truth none-the-less, and you're not going to change it with your meaningless rubbish.
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@GodSpeed63
change it with the meaningless your rubbish.
That's the second time you've posted a nonsensical sequence of words. The other sequence I'm still waiting for you to clarify, if you can, is "That's you present yourself in your posts on here."

@newjaninev2 Misogynistic crap from GodSpeed. Shocking, huh?
@newjaninev2 @CookieLuvsBunny

Nah it's fine. He also said that men should not think with their head.
I really hope he means only when it comes to faith lol
CookieLuvsBunny · 31-35, F
@Pikachu I don't even try to understand that guy
@CookieLuvsBunny

lol me neither.
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@Pikachu It stems from the things that terrify creationists... free thought, questions, and reason
GodSpeed63 · 61-69, M
@newjaninev2
free thought, questions, and reason
Why would the terrify us being that we are defined by them?
Carazaa · F
Yes reason how the world began, because God tells us. There is no explanation from science how the world began. And God changed my heart to be loving. That is a miracle, and a fact. @newjaninev2
CookieLuvsBunny · 31-35, F
@Carazaa You made a conscious decision to try and be a better person. That is great but you did that and no hobgoblins were involved
Carazaa · F
No sorry I could never have the strength in myself to love all the people who have persecuted me, sorry, God helped me. And my prayers have been answered miraculously so many times that I don't even worry about my life at all any more.
CookieLuvsBunny · 31-35, F
@Carazaa Well you did. It was through your own initiative. Think about it. Why did god help you and ignore millions of other people?
