Be honest: when you read the bible what makes you think it is of divine origin? [Spirituality & Religion]

There was a time in my life where i really wanted to believe and i tried hard to have faith and asked with all my heart that god reveal himself to me. But predictably he did not. And the more i read, the more it became obvious to me that the bible was the work of men.
So base and petty and violent. This was not the work of an enlightened being.

So what makes you feel that the bible is of divine origin?

the VOICE that speaks through the Bible.
@hippyjoe1955

I can't relate to that experience.
My experience of the bible is that it is profoundly human in nature and origin.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Pikachu I know. You are like a blind man wondering about rainbows.
@hippyjoe1955

Bad luck for me i guess. Thanks god lol
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Pikachu If you prefer blindness to sight you are exactly where you want to be. I prefer sightedness myself. Rainbows are truly beautiful.
@hippyjoe1955

It's not about what i prefer, joe.
Using your own analogy, if i'm blind i cannot choose to see.
Either i can see or i cannot. Reading the bible, i cannot see any divinity in it.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Pikachu If you can have a preference so can I. My choice. My life. You want to be blind? Enjoy!!! I prefer sightedness. I will enjoy!!! I am not about to become blind to please you and I don't expect you to try to be sighted to please me. You haven't been called. Not my doing.
@hippyjoe1955

...joe. Read more carefully.

I've just said that it's NOT about preference.
I'm not arguing with you, i'm not telling you what you should believe.

I'm simply sharing my experience with you.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Pikachu Read my lips. I don't care about your silly opinion. You are nothing more than a goof on the internet being a twit.
@hippyjoe1955

Hmmm. An oddly hostile response considering all i've done is tell you that i don't share your perception of the bible.
But if you really don't care, one then wonders why you felt the need to enter this thread.
Perhaps you'd be better served by responding to threads you do care about🙂

@hippyjoe1955 It fascinates me that you insist the Bible is holy, yet act so contradictory to its teachings.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@OggggO You really have to know the Spirit to before making any judgement. The carnal mind can not understand the things of the Spirit.
OggggO · 36-40, M
@hippyjoe1955 Well, thanks for the non-answer.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@OggggO See you don't have the Spirit so my answer doesn't make sense to you. Anyone who has the Spirit is nodding their head in agreement with me. Funny how that works.
OggggO · 36-40, M
@hippyjoe1955 That’s some Pharisee level self-righteousness.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@OggggO Not at all. It is the truth as expressed in the Bible. You don't have the Spirit so you can not see it. Kind of sad. If you want to have the Spirit you too can ask Jesus to grant it to you and then you too can understand what the Bible says.
OggggO · 36-40, M
@hippyjoe1955 I suggest you reread Matthew 23.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@OggggO I know it a lot better than you. You have misinterpreted Jesus words. According to you Matthew 28:19 is wrong.
OggggO · 36-40, M
@hippyjoe1955 No, but I do think you are embodying Matthew 7:3-5.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@OggggO You can make any assumptions you want of me. I simply trust in Yahweh and His promise to me. "I will bless those who bless you,
And I will curse him who curses you;"
33Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad; for a tree is known by its fruit. 34You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks. 35The good man brings good things out of his good store of treasure, and the evil man brings evil things out of his evil store of treasure. 36But I tell you that men will give an account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken. 37For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@OggggO You don't pick figs from a thorn bush. You, lacking the Spirit are the thorn bush and as such no scripture you quote is valid. The devil himself quoted scripture to Jesus. Move on. You don't have the Spirit and as such are merely a clanging gong. If you want the Spirit ask Jesus. If you don't want the Spirit trying to use Scripture on me isn't helping your case.
OggggO · 36-40, M
@hippyjoe1955 Pretty clear that you aren’t the judge of whether or not I have the Holy Spirit. Further, it’s not lack of faith that makes one a clanging gong, but lack of love, which is, funnily enough, my biggest criticism of your behavior.

Well said.

You are right, love is the evidence someone is saved, according to Jesus.@OggggO

@hippyjoe1955 Not claiming to hear any voices from texts but by your logic, let's say a voice spoke through me on an old occult text, I should look it as divine origin?
the VOICE that speaks through the Bible.
If I shouldn't, what makes your book legit just because your God (this voice) said so, why should I believe that versus another book that speaks to me?
