Last thread kind of got derailed lol. To my theist peeps: Is it reasonable when the answer is unknown to conclude that god is the answer? [Spirituality & Religion]

Many creationists will say "I can't see how life could have evolved, therefor i am justified in believing god did it". Is that a justified rational?
Many will recognize this as a logical fallacy known as an argument from incredulity: If i don't know how x could be then i am justified in believing y.

Do you think this kind of thinking is a reliable way of knowing what is true?

No more so, than I can't see God, therfore must be it doesn't exist.

@UserNameSW That's not the same as saying "I can't see how it works, therefore [insert preferred deity] did it".
UserNameSW · 46-50, M
@suzie1960 it kinda is the same.

You don't know how something works or came to be, you come up with a way it may have come to be.

Some come up with diety other come up with no diety.

Same process, different outcome.

@UserNameSW no, not really. You witness science on a daily basis, science has proof for what it tells us. Science also never said that the big bang actually happened, it's a theory.

You see, science ain't afraid to admit that we don't know a lot of shit and what it does claim to know, it provides hard evidence for it.

Religion or faith on the other hand claims to KNOW that God exists or that God created the universe without providing any evidence outside of their own feelings or scriptures or teachings.

There's a huge difference.

I don't know how gravity works, I can belive it.
I can read a text that tells me about it.

I don't know if the universe exists, I can belive it does. I can read about the spaghetti monster and how it was created
@UserNameSW

What does believing that the universe exists have to do with believing how it cam to be?
UserNameSW · 46-50, M
@Pikachu they don't have to be related.

I don't know if it does exist. I belive it does.

I can read about the spaghetti monster's creation and how it was created.
@UserNameSW

But you have good reason to believe that the universe exists. In fact, it's very hard to find evidence that it doesn't.

I'm not sure how this is related to the question wherein we ask if it is reasonable to conclude that a god exists on the basis that we are incredulous about things existing without a god.
UserNameSW · 46-50, M
@Pikachu I believe it exists because I was told it exists.

I can see, hear or touch it.
I belive it does

I can't see, or touch the spaghetti monster. That doesn't mean I don't belive it exists.

Do you have any proof it doesn't exits?
Azrael ·
@UserNameSW

You can prove that something exists because it's there. It's impossible to prove something doesn't exist. You can't prove a negative.
Azrael ·
@UserNameSW belief has nothing to do with it, something either exists or it doesn't. The universe doesn't care about your beliefs or feelings.
@UserNameSW

Are you justified in believe something exists solely on the basis that it can't be proven not to?
UserNameSW · 46-50, M
@Pikachu people belive many things for many reasons. Not my place to tell people what to belive, how to belive, or why to belive.

Facts are important. Science and human knowledge are constantly improving.
As more is proven and confirmed people change their knowledge base.
