Why do you think the world/universe is about 6,000 years old? [Spirituality & Religion]

I don't, that has been the biggest challenge to my faith, other than being a morally bankrupts mass of stinking sin on a stick! I have to reconcile the scripture with science by turning most of Genesis into allegory and that makes me a heretic in the eyes of some of my closest friends. When there's no ambient light I can see further into the past than that when I look at the early morning sky. There is also the paradox of omniscience that a faithful educated person has to deal with. I'm accepted in spite of my heresy by my Baptist brothers and sisters! My dear friend Gavin has promised to break my neck, it they ever decide to burn me at the stake. I take some comfort in that.
